Yes once the car is registered we can run them on roads like any other normal car as prior to registering, the RTO of respective states, would have collected the road tax, green tax, car would have undergone a fitness test etc etc. Honestly once the car is legally imported in the country there is absolutely no reason why it cannot be registered. Personally I think it is a flaw in the notification and must be amended.

I have been informed that the car is not an original Jaguar but produced by Eagle which has the rights to share the body style. Its like an old shape but everything modern. The poona E type is also of the same brand.

I guess that makes total sense since its a post 1950 model. However, as I remember seeing on Top Gear, the Eagle Speedster ( That's what its called ) is worth a whooping £650,000!
That plus the import duties will take the total price of the car to a preposterous amount!

Here is the Top Gear link:

By the Pune one, do you mean MH12BA6XXX? Are you sure about this one? Because the Eagle models look quite different and modern compared to the original E-types. Even the tyres are fatter and they seem to have an agressive stance!

The first picture is of the Eagle Speedster and the next one is of an original E-type and the last one is of the Pune registered E-type:

Actually- Pune also has another E Type, bearing number- MH14Y/123

The MH12BA one, was actually an import in the mid Nineties, and hence the MH12BA number.

An American import, IIRC. This is also evident by the fact that the car is built to American specifications. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT THIS EAGLE THINGY.

Here's MH14Y/123-

Yes, This is a very legit E-Type V12 by Jaguar.
Currently undergoing some work and would be ready soon

The Eagle Speedster would be worth seeing though :P

I agree with you. It is an original E-type! It is quite evident from the pictures too!
The MH12 is an import from California if I am not wrong.
Speedy sir, which E-type are you talking about? Is there another one?

All Jaguar's require is- Work. They hardly seem to be bulletproof, that way. I never liked them, truth be told. Just saw a Jaguar- MH12HV137. The interiors were just utterly useless. No doubt- Merc & Beemers rule.

Yet, they remain very special cars, yes indeed.

Some more pics-

MH12BA6073 is indeed a Californian import, and still bore the CA plates when just imported. Love V12.

A certain Moderator is peeking out in this pic. Quick, someone hand him an infraction.

The other pics are of 6073, in what seems like Pune in the late 'Nineties.

Credits- Karl and Speedy. Thanks for the pics!

They are expensive, but there are some with the financial backing to purchase them.

The White E Type belongs to Mr.V.G. and resides in Bombay.

The Mh 14 (red) is an original car, imported later by the owner.

I am not talking about an E type but an Eagle roadster. The brother of the owner of MH 14 was seen on a few occasions driving it. Then there was no sign of it.

You can't register for road use, but is that really true? Time will tell, I am sure when the first registered vehicle is seen on the road .................
Still, its great to see new stock coming in. Cheers and happy importing, harit
Well, the living organism is growing in various directions, and the cars are rolling in.

In the meanwhile, I have learnt that these cars can be registered legally with the RTO. The first Caddy has been registered in Mumbai, a Rolls in Himachal. My understanding is that you can still not use these cars daily, only for the exhibitions, rallies etc. You can even avail of concessional tax with a VCCCI certificate which will say that your car is a rare car (even Model T's) But the VCCCI certificate is not mandatory and you can pay full tax.

Looking forward to see more cars coming in.

Cheers harit

A little doubt. If the vehicles are registered, the owner should be allowed to use the car as a daily drive too, as taxes and other govt and rto requirements have been fulfilled. The vehicle becomes as any other normal car that has been imported and registered. Or is this cars being registered another scam, to trade cars forward.?
