Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

Saw this in Goa 2 days back. Seemed to have few original parts. Anyone has any clues of the origin of these trucks in India?

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

Posting a pic of once popular Ananda Krishna Bus Service (AKBS), who used to have many long service buses starting from Kannur. Later AKBS was slpit into Anand Krishna Road ways and Ananda Krishna Bus Transports. The couldn't survive for long after split.

I have found memories of travelling in their buses as a kid. They used to be in bule and green color.

That's L 328, later re-designated as L 911. There were many other designations also depending upon engine size and tonnage.

The semi-forward control L series was introduced in Germany in 1959 to comply with changes in German Motor Vehicle Rules which no longer permitted the long bonnet layout of earlier generation L series trucks. The shorter bonnet length was achieved by pushing part of the engine inside the driver cab.

The semi-forward control range proved extremely popular all over the world. Production continued in Brazil long after it ended in Germany.

More info here:

Well, this truck was found in Goa, they were built since 1959, so maybe a Portuguesse brought it in

There was one with Dukes in Mumbai delivering Sodas and Mangolas, another grey one was also plying as a public carrier. My friend has one in Goa which was left behind by world travellers. It came through customs and he restored it. These were very tough trucks with huge macho appeal.

Cheers harit

Lovely picture! It is indeed interesting to note the older logo of the Indian National Congress i.e the ones with the cows.

Also, it has also to be noted that they are canvassing for Jawaharlal Nehru himself!

Indeed the best picture I have seen in recent times.

Also, did any one notice the Willys wagon behind the Dodge? The Willys must have been in its prime then!

It feels sad that 20 years down the drain, had the Dodge and the Willys survived, they would most probably have been Dieselised!

P.S: I presume the Dodge chassis was assembled by the Premier Automobiles?

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

The bus from award winning Malayalam movie 'Celluloid'. This one has been parked there for quite sometime, donno why

As per the Kerala MVD records, this was registered in 1964 as a Heavy Goods Carrier

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

I don't think the wagon behind the bus is Willys. Notice that it has wood body and the windshield post i s not what you would find on Willys. From the thickness of the frame, this windshield could belong to any of the many wood body station wagons that were built in India - Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Fargo or even International. My opinion .

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

This super rare and rather endearing Piaggio Ape rickshaw used to attend events in Pune years back. Unfortunately I never took good photos of it, and we haven't seen it in many years. I hope it is still around. I only know of one other one surviving, and I think it is with our TeamBHPian in the south.

A vehicle like this is a must have for the newly opened museum in Gurgaon. Even a replica, if need be.

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

Today I saw this Tata 1210D truck. It appears from the L symbol and various traffic signs painted on it that it is used by a Driving school. What surprised me was the registration number was KA - 32 which is fairly new registration for this old Truck.

Re: The Classic Commercial Vehicles (Bus, Trucks etc) Thread.

Here's an old Tata Mercedes Benz truck, which we spotted while returning back from today's meet. MHL 3202 It looks shortened; is the chassis shortened, or is it due to the appearance of a short tanker on the long chassis?
