I remember this car well - earlier white in colour. Originally belonged to Adenwallas in Bombay, then changed a couple of owners before landing up in Delhi.

Isn't that a W 115 ? (also called the "compact"). A grand status symbol from the seventies..

Indrojit, theres something wrong with the W111 220S.

Agreed it has a six cyl engine and front but the rear is of a W110, never saw anything combined like this. This is either two cars joint or its a replacement job. IMHO the W111's never came with the W110 rear ens or lights. But the W110 did come with a 230, never a 220 and it was not an S. if this is a W220 s then theres something seriously wrong. IMHO its a mix and match car.

You are of course correct but from what i understand, the cost of genuine mercedes parts in India is very high. It's bad enough here in Australia!.
I would imagine the restoration shop has used a 110 rear panel and tail lights to replace a damaged one because the correct rear panel wasn't available as a used part and the new tail lights are close to $1200 AUD each .
The 230 cars had the radiator right forward in the engine room under the radiator support to allow for room.
This is one of my customers cars , in a similar colour . It has been this way for several years and is his daily driver. It has a new 280 S engine and trans ( thats NEW ,not rebuilt which I fitted last week ) with a W108 rear axle for higher gearing and four wheel disc brakes. It also has power steering.

Gogi JI,

This car is a W111. The original tail lights had got lost during some shifting. So the W110 tail lamps were put on. Leaving the lights the rest is all of a W111.

RJZ 5353 is what is visible on the number plate of this car. Do you still have this car in the family ? Some recent pics would be interesting.

Sometime back a junking 290 Merc of the 1930's was picked up from Lonavala and is being restored in Jaipur. This is what the car looked like once upon a time. She was white in colour, only one door, rear left was out of the car, headlight glasses had the Mercedes star etched in them. Wonder how much will remain original after the rebuild, chassis rotted to the core. But a worthy project never the less.

Cheers harit
