The very slim radiator is characteristic of a late 1920's Peugeot 201.

But then, everything looks so American !

Going by the dimensions and the tail, I'd go with a Hupmobile Roadster.

Yes that is Nana Chowk post 1940. These trams terminated at Gwalior Tank. Later they introduced those Skoda Trolley buses. Some thing had happened to one tram nearer to the bottom. The fire station building was demolished about 2 years ago, it was a heritage structure. Now they have built that utterly useless sky walk with a locked up escalator.

This is Marine drive. Every road coming from the side opposite the sea had a circle at the intersection. All gone now.

Here is a photo of a Fiat getting ready for a Himalayan Rally. Rallyists mentioned are our very own Subodh Nath, Shrenik Shah and one Patel, can't read his name correctly. The close up on names is posted separately.

Seems this rally was held after the one which was interrupted by stone pelters, see the heavy protective grill on the windshield. Could Subodh give some info about where and in which year this was?

Cheers harit

This is one of the 1st three Himalayan Rallies. My father Mr. Subodh Nath along with co driver Mr. Shrenik Shah Both from Ahmedabad And Mr. Fali Patel from Mumbai. This probably would be the first Himalayan Rally.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Dear Harit - YOU HAVE MADE MY LIFE. I JUST DON"T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. THANK YOU!

The well-built gentleman in the center of the first picture with his right hand folded and his left hand having a watch is MR.FRAMROZE PIROJSHA NARIMAN of The Premier Automobiles Ltd. He was one of my three teachers, I am blessed to be his student. For me, HE IS GOD! Thank you once again for posting this picture, I will treasure it forever!

The gentleman standing next to him facing the car is Mr.Shenoy, also of PAL. The location of the picture seems to be "Ramp No 2" behind the "Balancing Plant" inside PAL Kurla. Ramp No 2 was where the Padmini cars used to get attended after rollout. Balancing Plant was the name of the engine assembly shop.

Dear AbhiNath - these pictures seem to be from 1981, before the start of the second Himalayan Rally, as the cars are very clean. The windshield mesh is already there, so it is not 1980!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Hi,

This can only be the second or third event, in the first event your dad took part in a Mercedes 220. I had taken photos at the start of the 1st event at Brabourne stadium and recently had presented him with four copies, one for each of the participants.
Below are more pics of this rally, Mahindra's with Indian and Swedish participation. Maybe someone remembers these and can say whether this was the 2nd or 3rd event.
And where were the pics of the Fiat taken, at which service station?
Please try to find out.

Cheers harit

Behram's post crossed mine.
