BHPian manim recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I did a 600 kms drive this week. It was more than 95% on 4-lane highways (NH-38). The FE was 19.9 kmpl over 417 kms. I did try to nudge it to a round 20.0 kmpl in the last part by being very careful in my throttle-inputs and braking but ran out of the 4-lane road!
Most of the time the cruise-control was set at 85 kmph. The outside temperature in the early morning was 25 deg and in the evening climbed to 35 deg. The aircon was excellent.
I wish I could have 'hypermiled' with tricks such as following close to trucks/bus to slipstream which could have boosted my FE greatly. But then my passenger (my better-half) started complaining that 85 kmph was too slow! So it was a 'normal' drive which gave me this excellent FE of 19.9 kmpl.
And considering the petrol prices, it makes me smile.
Here's what BHPian sam264_2000 had to say on the matter:
Last month, I did a Pune-Goa-Pune in my 5th Gen City CVT. It returned a mileage of 19.3kmpl on the Pune-Goa stretch. On the return leg, I got 18.3kmpl with spirited driving (consistently above 100kmph). The car had 4 adults and boot about 75% full. AC was ON 100% of the entire journey.

That’s awesome! I also completed my first long drive in my City petrol manual in the first month itself. It was from Ghaziabad to Kathgodam ~ 260 kms one side and managed to get a mileage of 17 kmpl in the entire round trip which included mostly highway driving with AC along with a 2 km stretch where I was stuck in heavy jam for almost 30 mins which would have impacted the mileage a bit. However in the highway I was not exceeding 90 kmph keeping in mind the run in period.
I am hopeful that after the first service things will only get better. Reading your post reassures me.
