Daimler ends internal combustion engine development

According to a media report, Daimler has ended development of new internal combustion engines and will now be focussing only on electric powertrains.

The report suggests that the latest generation of inline-six cylinder petrol and diesel engines could be the last. These engines are expected to power the E-Class, the S-Class and a few SUVs. It is said that there are no plans for future combustion engine development. Mercedes is instead concentrating on electrification, electric drivetrains and battery development to power electric vans and electric cars like the EQC and the upcoming EQB and EQS. Along with electric vans, Mercedes also sells electric trucks and buses.

Daimler's Smart is also a pure electric brand.
