SC: BS4 vehicles sold before lockdown can be registered

The Supreme Court has allowed the registration of BS4 vehicles that were sold in March this year, before the lockdown was announced.

The court stated that all registrations including temporary registrations will be allowed on the e-VAHAN portal, except for Delhi-NCR, where registration of BS4 vehicles has not been allowed.

Back in March 2020, the apex court was informed that there were around 7 lakh unsold BS4 vehicles, which included 15,000 cars and 12,000 commercial vehicles. It is said that details of 39,000 vehicles were not uploaded on the e-VAHAN portal.

On March 27, the Supreme Court had passed an order allowing dealers to sell 10% of unsold BS4 stock for 10 days after the lockdown was lifted.

On June 15, the court put a ban on the sale and registration of BS4 vehicles after it found that the dealers had violated its earlier order. Last month, the court had extended the ban on the registration of BS4 vehicles.
