2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift spotted testing in India

Maruti Suzuki has started testing the 2017 S-Cross facelift on public roads in India. A heavily camouflaged mule of the upcoming facelifted crossover was recently spotted during one of its test runs. While the automaker hasn't mentioned an official launch timeline for the car yet, earlier reports have indicated that the S-Cross facelift will likely be introduced in India around the festive season this year, i.e. September - October 2017.

The spotted model has been disguised under heavy camouflage. However, the India-spec S-Cross facelift will likely retain the design of the internationally revealed model. As a result, the front fascia is expected to come with a chrome-lined wide grille with vertical slats. The headlight assemblies are new units with smoked assemblies, projector setup and LED daytime running lamps. The side and rear profile will likely be similar to that of the outgoing model, with some small tweaks to the taillights and rear bumper and a new set of alloy wheels being the only changes.

No mechanical changes are expected to be made on the facelifted S-Cross. As a result, it will continue to be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 1.6-litre diesel unit mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. A petrol engine might also be added to the crossover, owing to the surge in demand for petrol-powered cars in India.

Rumour: Maruti S-Cross facelift to launch around Diwali '17

Maruti Suzuki will likely be launching the S-Cross facelift in India around the festive season this year (September - November 2017). This information was reportedly revealed by the company's executive director - research & development - Mr. C.V. Raman.

The S-Cross facelift was internationally unveiled in Hungary and was subsequently showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The facelifted model was also spotted at the automaker's Gurgaon factory last month.

The mid-life update will bring some cosmetic changes to the exteriors of the crossover, most of which will be limited to the front fascia. The 2017 S-Cross is expected to get a new chrome-lined front grille with vertical slats, a tweaked bumper and new headlights with projectors and DRLs. The side and rear profiles will likely remain similar to that of the current model, except a new set of alloy wheels and some minor tweaks to the rear bumper and taillights.

On the inside, the S-Cross facelift is expected to feature an updated instrument cluster with a new MID screen, fresh seat upholstery with contrast-coloured stitching and new colour combinations for the dashboard.

Mechanically, the S-Cross facelift is likely to remain identical to the current model. As a result, the two engine options on offer will include the 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel mills. Additionally, Maruti might also introduce a petrol variant to the S-Cross line-up, owing to the increasing demand of petrol options in the Indian market.

Scoop! Maruti S-Cross facelift spotted at Gurgaon factory

Thank you to BHPian RavenAvi for sharing this image with other enthusiasts!

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross facelift has been spotted at the company's production facility in Gurgaon, Haryana. This is probably the first image of the updated S-Cross on Indian soil.

The single spy shot just offers a glimpse at the car's new headlights, a part of the front grille and new alloy wheels. However, we have already seen how the S-Cross facelift looks like, as it was unveiled last year in Hungary.

The mid-life facelift gets a revised front end with new, bulkier headlights with projectors. Other new design elements include a wide front grille with vertical slats finished in chrome and a redesigned bumper with a large blacked out portion. The side profile hasn't been given any major changes. The rear end gets tweaked tail lights and a new bumper. Additionally, the car gets a redesigned set of alloy wheels.

Details of the powertrain setup and feature-related changes expected in the S-Cross facelift aren't known yet. However, Maruti is likely to continue to offer the crossover with the existing engines - a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit and a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel powerplant. A petrol option might also be introduced, since the Indian market is slowly shifting towards petrol powered cars.

The S-Cross facelift is expected to be launched in India later this year.

Maruti discontinues lower variants of S-Cross 1.6L

Maruti Suzuki has silently discontinued the Delta and Zeta variants from the S-Cross DDiS 320 model line-up. As a result, the 1.6-litre engine powered S-Cross is now available only in the top-end Alpha variant, priced at Rs. 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). No changes have been made to the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 model line-up.

Maruti launched the S-Cross in India in 2015. Owing to its exorbitant price tag, the 'premium crossover' didn't manage to attract satisfactory sales for the automaker, forcing it to cut prices by up to Rs. 2.05 lakh in January 2016. This helped the S-Cross to attract a few sales numbers. Maruti currently sells around 2,000 units of the S-Cross every month. However, a major chunk of these sales are for the DDiS 200 variants that are powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine.

Meanwhile, the DDiS 320 model, which draws power from a 1.6-litre diesel engine rated at 118 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, garnered appreciation from the enthusiasts but didn't manage to clock sufficient sales numbers. Maruti also claims that most customers opting for the larger engine wanted all the bells and whistles as well, and thus the Alpha variant was the popular choice. This might have been a reason behind Maruti discontinuing sales of the lower variants.

Driver airbag standard on Maruti Swift, S-Cross gets ISOFIX

Thank you to the Team-BHP fan (he prefers to remain anonymous) who sent this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts!

With customer preferences inclining towards safety features in new cars, Maruti Suzuki has made safety-related updates on two of its models. Sources suggest that the Swift will now come with a driver-side airbag as standard on all trim levels. Meanwhile, the S-Cross lineup will get standard ISOFIX mounts on all variants. The official websites of both these models have not yet been updated with the aforementioned feature additions.

Prior to the said update, the Swift was available with driver and passenger airbags on the top-end ZXi/ZDi variants, while the lower trims got them as options. However, the hatchback will now be available with a driver side airbag as standard, even on the entry-level LXi/LDi variants.

Maruti Suzuki has been stressing on safety features across all its models since last year. The company had earlier added ISOFIX mounts as standard features on all variants of the Baleno and the Ciaz. The S-Cross is the third model to receive the ISOFIX update. Moreover, since the recently launched Ignis already comes with standard ISOFIX mounts, all models being sold through the Nexa dealership network are now equipped with ISOFIX for safely attaching child seats.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross gets new 16-inch gunmetal alloys

Maruti Suzuki has silently made some updates to its NEXA cars. We recently reported the addition of ISOFIX child seat mounts on the Baleno hatchback. Now, the automaker has changed the alloy wheels of the S-Cross crossover, which will now come with 16-inch gunmetal wheels. No pricing changes have been made to both these cars.

The S-Cross will get new gunmetal alloys on the Zeta and Alpha trims. It must be noted here that the earlier alloy wheel design was widely condemned to be too bland and unappealing. Though they were 16-inchers, lack of a dynamic design made them look like wheel caps. The new multi-spoke alloys look comparatively better and will likely add to the car's appeal.

Maruti will be launching the Ignis hatchback crossover on January 13, 2017, which will be the third car to retail through the NEXA dealership chain. The Baleno RS, which is a high-performance variant of the Baleno, is also expected to be launched sometime next year.

Rumour: Maruti S-Cross facelift launch by the end of 2017

As per recent media reports, Maruti Suzuki will be launching the facelifted S-Cross in India in the second half of 2017. The car was revealed globally earlier this year, and was also showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The facelifted S-Cross gets a new front fascia, which features a vertically slated grille, a beefier bumper, and new headlights with projectors. The side profile remains nearly identical, though the black body cladding is now thicker as compared to the model currently on sale in India. The rear gets new taillights and a redesigned bumper.

Interiors of the facelifted model get a new instrument cluster and new seat upholstery with contrast stitching.

For the Indian market, Maruti will most likely continue to offer the S-Cross with the 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines. There are also rumours about a petrol engine making its way to the S-Cross, though nothing has been officially confirmed as of now.

Suzuki S-Cross facelift officially revealed in Hungary

After multiple spy images of the Suzuki S-Cross facelift were leaked on the internet last week, pictures from an official event in Hungary have now surfaced online. The images were reportedly taken during a showcasing event for selected audience in Hungary.

The mid-life facelift gets cosmetic modifications at the front. These includes an upright front grille with vertical chrome slats, new headlamps with projectors, a redesigned bumper that now gets black cladding on the lower area and a beefed-up hood. The side profile and silhouette of the car remains identical to the current model, though a new set of alloys is clearly visible in the images. Meanwhile, the rear gets redesigned tail lights, and black cladding on the bumper that also houses a faux skid plate.

Engine options on the India-spec S-Cross are expected to be similar to those being offered in the current model, i.e. 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines. A new 1.5-litre petrol might be added with the facelift to take care of the rising demand of petrol cars in the market.

The Suzuki S-Cross facelift will make its global debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. It will go on sale in the UK around the end of this year, while it is still not certain when Maruti Suzuki will bring the facelifted model to India.

Rumour: Maruti Suzuki S-Cross petrol to get 1.5-litre engine

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is currently offered with two engine options, a 1.3-litre DDiS200 and a 1.6-litre DDiS320, both of them being diesel mills. But with the latest NGT ban and continuous diesel price hikes, the Indian automotive market is showing a clear inclination towards petrol-powered cars. As a result, Maruti Suzuki too is planning to introduce a petrol variant of the S-Cross, which will likely be powered by the Suzuki M15 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The said 1.5-litre engine is a four-cylinder unit that is capable of generating 100 BHP @ 5,900 rpm and a peak torque of 133 Nm @ 4,100 rpm. It will come with a manual gearbox as standard; while a 4-speed automatic transmission might be offered as an option.

The S-Cross is sold through Maruti's premium dealership chain called NEXA, which also houses the Baleno hatchback. While the 1.3-litre S-Cross has managed to clock some satisfactory sales numbers, especially after the recent price drop of more than Rs. 1 lakh, the 1.6-litre DDiS320 variant has been attracting very few numbers. As a result, the company is now offering the more powerful DDiS320 S-Cross only on a made-to-order basis.

In addition to the S-Cross petrol, the M15 1.5-litre engine is also expected to replace the 1.4-litre K14 engine that currently powers the Ciaz sedan.
