Hi Randeep,

Could you please update the tread by latest pictures. this is a really good exposure to jeep building.

can it be possible that a fully restored army jeep be used for normal city driving.

i would like to have a jeep, which will have a good decent engine like isuzu 2.4 power steering and coil suspension.

This will have ACs too.from out side it will be soft leather cover from inside there will be a falls roof ...the idea is to maintain the looks of a jeep and the luxury of modern technology.

i would like to have the blue print of the exercise first then the jeep can be bought from mayapuri and expert BHPians are there to help.

Congrats for you new machine. I wanted to clarify that are you sure its MM540. Because in 2000 army started taking only MM550.


How much is the isuzu engiene costing you?

I shall be updating the thread soon, I was unable to visit Jaipur in the last 2 weeks. I should be going next week and so shall update the same.

Yes one can very much restore the jeep that has offroading capabilities and have the comforts of a modern SUV. The MM550 would be apt for such a project as it already comes with doors and windows. Once the hood is up an air conditioner could do wonders. By installing an Isuzu or Toyota engine the vehicle becomes seems more refined than the XDP engine(My opinion). With a power steering installed the Jeeps performs like any other seden with a PS.

Get your plans ready and we all are here to give our inputs.

Hi Everyone,

Well I got the opportunity to visit my Jeep at the workshop in Jaipur on saturday. I was to stay longer but an urgent meeting today left me with only a few hours on saturday and returned to Gurgaon the same evening.

The work has picked up pace but is far from nearing completion. The Doors and side walls are complete. Door handles in place and doors are now operational.

Also got the tyres fitted yesterday and it just looks awesome.

Things yet to be done are :

1. I decided to get the rear door (dalla) sealed permanently. This because, Dalla would not be able to take the weight of the spare tyre and also because i'm fixing a front facing center seat.

2. The chassis needs to get stretched upfront and the differential moved forward.

3. The bonnet and mudguards to be extended by approx. 4-5 inches.

4. After the above is done, the Jeep will go in for paint job.

5. Front and rear bumper already sent for fabrication.

The wheels look very nice. Gives the Jeep a very butch look.

Are you going to be changing the wheel arches as the wheels are sticking out a bit ?

Yes the wheel arches are going to be fabricated. Infact a side wall is going to run from the start of the front mudguard and finishing after the rear mudguard. In the middle it shall host a stepper. The wall would be approx. 2" - 2.5" wide which shall comfortable cover the tyres.

Satnam, do check my other thread on th Russian Uaz with regard to your PM. Though I do not have a pic of the two standing together ther Uaz is BIG.

Hi,

The wheel arches that will get fabricated would be similar to the Wrangler pics that I'm attaching. They would be a bit wider and would host a stepper just below the Doors.

My Jeeps bonnet is going to be fabricated on the same lines as this wrangler. I dont know what model it is but I guess its around 88-90 model.

The tyres sure give a good and mean look to your jeep. It would sure be a monster when its finished especially with the short doors and the body fabrication that you will be doing on the front. Not to mention the engine that you have put in it.

I am thinking of putting in a separate swing out frame to hold the spar wheel. You may have seen some pictures of wrangler swing out spare wheel carriers.

The engine is not interfering with the differentials, I'm moving the front diffs as the wrangle too has a long bonnet, as I'm trying to replicate a wrangler. Plus by doing this my power steering housing also comes within the bonnet and so the grill need not be cut of have holes made into it. The wheelbase will surely get longer by 3-4 inches.

I have put the spacers to accommodate my rims as they are 160 PCD and the Jeep has a lower PCD of 139.7.

Makes sense. Do you have to cut and lengthen the chasis? or you will use the existing chasis and extend just the hood/fenders?

It is nice to have the PS hidden. The Koyo unit sticks out like a tumor. Thankfully the original Bolero unit has a low profile and stays inline with the chasis.
