Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

I am not sure how long they will be taking to launch this AMT version. After testing for a long time, they shelved the Diesel version. Moreover, Cyrus Mistry has also given an ultimatum about reviving the sales. Will it be too late in the day when they launch the AMT version?

With the plethora of cars Tata Motors keeps testing on and on, they should rename themselves : Tata Motors & Testing Limited.

I am sure you must be joking!! Are you saying you never drive over 100kmph anywhere? or have seen no other traffic over 100kmph? Even humble Volvo buses regularly top 120kmph for long stretches over highways, and driving a Nano which cuts off at 105kmph is dangerous and asking for trouble, especially on good stretches like the Pune expressway. That's why the present car is a strict city runabout. In cities like Mumbai too, there are several stretches where car traffic is easily traveling at 80 - 100kmph

Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

Saw this completely undisguised Nano AMT at SB Road, Pune last sunday. It was driven by two young girls.

Note the F-Tronic and XTA badges, openable hatch and a rear spoiler apart from the new bumper.

The good news is that the Nano sounded way quieter and better than the early Nano's.

Thanks for the clicks //M. I guess TML is now ready for the launch. As mentioned by @LonelyPlanet, lets hope we see an April launch for this Nano XTA F-Tronic.

I think from the Twist onwards, Nano has been on the quieter side as compared to when it was launched.

In addition to the changes noted above, I think that there is a change in the transparent area of the rear glass. The darkened areas on the 4 edges are a lot more than the current design. Hiding the hatch mechanism?

Compare the current glass with the above post's pictures.

Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

Saw this test mule of Tata nano. the badge on the windshield was suggesting TESTING : ELECTRICAL.

Few observations :

1) Engine was very less noisy than current nano.
2) Pick up was superb. very quick
3) Front tyre was R13.
4) Also dashboard was wooden finished and with Zest/bolt steering while. also there was no music system but instead of that there were few switches at the place of music systems
5) also is it coming with external fuel filling unlike the current nano where we have to open bonnet to fill the fuel.

Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

Excellent find, thank you guys! I am wondering why is tata doing away with the rear spoiler? There should be some way of fitting it on the rear hatch door? The new models look less elegant in the absence of a rear spolier. All other changes are welcome though!

Was this car an AMT? My guess is with super pickup and a silent engine this could be the bigger 800cc engine version.

The vent near to the engine looks similar to the charger connector used in many electric cars! does it means a TATA planning an Electric version of Nano? It makes sense to have an electric version of Nano for city usage

Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

The Nano strategy is all confused now! Wonder what Tata has as a long term plan for this lil car. With each addition the car gets more expensive. No matter what kit the car sports its not really going to dent the Alto/800/K10 cousins due to public perception.

I guess its time Tata bought in a slightly more powerful and better built car with all these features... Oh, wait.. Is that what the 'Kite' is all about ?

Guess he was talking about Intra-city commute, I never really find much chances to cross 100kmph except a couple of roads in wee hours. Even then 100+ is illegal in the city anyways.

Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

Is that an electric Nano? Or a larger 3-cylinder petrol test mule meant for testing the electricals? Maybe a stop-start system, along with an e-clutch perhaps?

The former would be fantastic! The near perfect Zero Emission urban commuter/runabout that costs very little to run.

The latter would be pretty good too. An 800cc engine with 50 ~ 55 PS powering a kerb weight of < 750 kg with a rear engine, rear wheel drive layout would make it quite fun-to-drive, as long as Tata provide fatter tyres & upgraded brakes.

The slow pace at which they bring out new variants is the worry. The AMT car with the openable hatch should have been on sale by now. I hope they don't delay the 800cc version or the electric Nano (if it's in the works) by too much.

Re: PICS: Tata begins testing Nano Twist Active AMT

We booked a twist xt today in exchange for my 2010Lx.
The SA said that the AMT will be available about 6 months from now. The approximate cost would be about 3.5 lakhs.
I have no contact in the company to verify this information-just quoting what the SA said.
