Check the OD of the 275s..Try looking for any other tyre sizes with similar ODs in the pattern you want. It should help solve most issues!

Guys

I will be getting Yoko Geolander A/T-S 215/75/R15 in the next 10 days. What should I look out for ?

1. Date embossed on tyre - does it come in DOT code? (Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 1 of 4) What will be the dot code for a tyre 6 months old or less?

From Wiki:
Quote:
"DOT code: All tires for use in the USA have the DOT code, as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT). It specifies the company, factory, mold, batch, and date of production (2 digits for week of the year plus 2 digits for year; or 2 digits for week of the year plus 1 digit for year for tires made prior to 2000). Although not law, some tire manufacturers do not suggest using a "new" tire that has been sitting on the shelf for more than 6 years (Ford Motor Company) or 10 years (Cooper Tire citing a tire association recommendation
Edit: 1310 would mean Manufactured in April 2010? (Where weeks 13-17 belong to April.)

2. Should I insist on tyre being wrapped in original packaging sleeve? I heard used tyres are polished and re-sold. How do I ensure they are brand new? Since the authorized stockist is quoting high, I want to buy from another source whose channel is unknown.

3. This is for my new BS IV Gypsy in transit from Gurgaon plant right now as we speak. Does anyone know the street price of the stock MRF F78 205/70/R15 tyre? I want to check if the buy back price is reasonable.

Thanks

Hi Ragul,

Buyback for brand new MRFs should be around 2 or less i guess and the price for yoko geo ATS 215/75 R15 should be 4300 per tyre. Negotiate with a lot of dealers before you purchase. i had got a quote of 4800 from one place and then 4600 from the other. i told the second place that i have an offer for 4250 over the phone and he called be back and agreed on that price. However i purchased it for 4300 from a known person so that i dont have any issues in future if at all and i got around 300 bucks as buyback for the 6 year old MRFs.

I think GSferrari had got his Yokos at a total price of 15k post buyback of the MRFs. This was in early 2010.

and 0410 would mean 4th week of 2010.

Hi Ragul,
Try Millivisions on the entrance of Krumbigal Road, Lalbagh Main Gate.
Decent buy back price for MRF F78s would be between 1800 to 2K.
Check with Bimal on what would be his quote. I got a better deal from my dealer (than my enquiries with the tyre dealers).
Cheers,
Deepak

Sugan@karizma9292

The samurai wheels that you wish are available with Autodrome in ur city. But I think, the guy doesnt keep any in ready stock. He orders them when he gets orders. The price he gave me is appx 6000/pc.

re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

balance your Tyre for its lifetime!!

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...ml#post2173872

source Get The Lead Out (it is all about balance) - Off Road Adventure

Quote:
  • beads are placed inside the tire (big space filled with air… not inside the rubber… just want to be clear) and sit at the bottom tire when the rig is at rest
  • as the rig begins to move the wheel starts to roll and centrifugal force distributes the beads all around
  • every time a heavy spot on the tire goes up on the rotation it pushes the beads down and away from the heavy portion of the tire
  • quickly the oscillation frequency reduces and the beads move less and less
  • when the wheel achieves perfect balance centrifugal force holds all the beads in place
source 2001 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner Dyna Beads Photo 5

Quote:
We've had problems in the past keeping wheels balanced on our rigs that see a lot of trail use.

Clip-on weights often get torn off in the rocks, leaving you with an out-of-balance tire.

Stick-on weights added to the inside of the wheel work better, but we thought we'd try something else.

Innovative Balancing manufactures Dyna Beads, small ceramic balls that we installed loose inside our tires.

These are meant to balance the tires dynamically while in motion. We're hoping this balance method will prove to be reliable and keep our tires in balance as they wear or as chunks get torn out of the tread.
