Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

I just saw this video and thought this knowledge should be known to all of us enthusiasts. Apologies if it has already been discussed. The most surprising part for me was the weight difference between the 2 tyres

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Great to share the link for the video here. Just an add-on thin tires help in piercing the snow and mud and help the vehicle to move much more easily as compared to broad tires. Experienced this practically. Maybe that's the reason why Jimny has decent stock tires.

The stock Gypsy comes with F78-15 Nylon Cross Ply tyres as Standard from the Factory. These can be Ceat HT75 or MRF Estate. My Gypsy had Estates and since they were old I bought and installed a fresh set of these. The recommended radial tyres for Gypsy are 205/70/15.The most acceptable upsize is 215/75/15. Anything more is absolute overkill.

I speak with conviction because I have had 5 different Gypsys over the last 25 years and still own one.

Pictured below you can see my present green soft top Gypsy with stock F78-15 MRF Estate Cross Ply Nylon Tyres. And my earlier Gypsy with Goodyear Wrangler 215/75/15’s.

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Apollo has launched a new AT tyre, VREDESTEIN PINZA ALL TERRAIN TYRES.

1.) Anybody got an unbiased fact-based opinion?

2.) Any chance Indian Gov. will reverse itself and allow imported tyres e.g.
Michelin, Continental etc. like before?

3.) You guys got any favorite AT tyres now available in India that you like?

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Do the 215/75 R15s even foul slightly on full articulation situations on the Jimny?

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

So I changed my wheels on my Montero to Off-Road wheels. The damn thing is heavy and imbalanced on high speeds. Still just because how good it looks, I'm keeping it.

Hi Dhanush,
How has your experience been with the 980s? I wanted to go for BFGs but I have to come to understand that they are significantly heavier and also are retailing between 22-25k per tire in the Chandigarh area. While considering options I came to read some good feedback about 980s and as per my understanding, they offer more pliant rides and are cheaper as well compared to BFGs. Can you throw some insights on this ?

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

I have a slight doubt with regard to my Jeep CJ 500DI,when I bought the vehicle, it came with 15 inch steel rims (the off road type), and ‎31x10.5-15 tyres, of a Chinese Brand

I want to get a new set of tyres, but except for Chinese brands, there is no other option I have with regard to wheel sizes. What tyre size can I put on this set of rims, without compromising on the overall look of the vehicle.

I am also open to putting a pair of alloy wheels and putting slightly smaller tyres of retaining the existing rims is not feasible considering lack of tyre availability. In that case, I would love to get alloy wheel suggestions, along with ideal tyre sizes to put, I mostly use it on rough roads, but rarely is it taken for off roading.

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Hi Torque Monster,
I personally feel a CJ 500 looks best with NDMS tyres. 16” rims from Thar DI with 6.00 MRF NDMS or 7.50 NDMS in the same pattern from a tyre dealer called Yuwheelz would look and drive best. Look them up on insta they have loads of pictures of CJ with NDMS tyres.

Yes, Yuwheelz are manufacturing really good tires recently. I have seen them on road with multiple vehicles. One of my close friend is also using the same NDMS 7.00/16 on his Jeep Major. In reality they look really amazing and huge as compared to MRF NDMS tires. I can't comment as of now their reliability since these tires are new in the market. But till date they are performing really amazing since 2022.

Re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

I recently received an image showcasing the installation of NDMS tires by Yuwheels on my Mahindra Marshal, although the specific model remains unidentified. The visual presentation of the vehicle is notably enhanced by this upgrade. It's worth noting that during the late 1990s, the Mahindra Marshal was originally outfitted with Buckshot tires manufactured by MRF, known as the Big Rover series. These tires earned a reputation for their exceptional performance, particularly in challenging road conditions characterized by mud and snow. Indeed, their performance was unparalleled in an era when road infrastructure was less developed, underscoring their significance in enhancing traction and handling capabilities.
