Re: 2 decades of Team-BHP | A Happy 20th to our community Happy 20th Anniversary to Team-BHP. This is quite a milestone. When one considers the fact that this forum continues to stick to its core values. When in today’s world others have fallen prey to deceit, tuning their content to serve the needs of those who are paying for it, allowing bad characters to spew venom and spoil the atmosphere. Etc.
I am fortunate to be part of this forum. In 2009, when I struck upon this forum, and was enrolling for its membership, it struck me when this forum asked me to set forth in detail the reason for joining it, it struck me how serious this forum considers its membership, it wants to vet its joiner’s—figurative meaning. I may not have gone through the forum rules since the day I joined, that post may have evolved itself in terms of being continuously supplemented with information which is relevant to keep pace with today’s ways. I always allowed my good sense to prevail, and shared my views and opinions in a balanced manner in order to not incur the opprobrium of my fellow t-BHPian’s , nevertheless, I have not been scrupulous enough in terms of reviewing my opinions in a literal sense, before posting it on this forum, for which I was marked down a couple of times, not a serious infraction, I would say; as a consequence of which I have inculcated a habit of creating a document in MS Word and let it review it for any mistakes, before posting on the forum. I can’t bear Grammarly plug-in constantly pitching in its attempt to fix the errors, real-time; somehow force of habit, or convenience led me to use the Word application rather than use that plug-in. Anyways, an important reason for resorting to such a practice is to soften the burden of our valuable moderators in terms of the effort they put in to rectify our grammatical mistakes. I sincerely believe that we can contribute to softening the burden of our moderators in terms of taking upon ourselves this task of omitting such errors. Since, this is an opportune moment that we are talking about one of the tasks of our valuable moderators. I would like to congratulate the team in terms of the splendid job they are doing in terms of rectifying those errors.
This idea of contributing only when it’s something valuable has drawn oneself to this forum. Albeit it’s very difficult to stick to this idea, my posts number in three digits and when compared to the timespan it took me to formulate those, others may draw an inference that I may have been absent for quite some time and may have intermittently contributed to this forum. However, the reason for such a puny number of posts compared to the years I have been part of it is simply because one has attempted to stick to this idea which I have talked about in the first sentence of this paragraph.
In this day and age, its well-nigh impossible not to mould content to suit high-paying proponents, those who tend to seek forums as one of those channels to influence opinions or gain a prospective buyer. Etc. How this forum has been able stave-off such advances is something only the forum originators and moderators can describe. Esp. because to relent to such advances is a win-win proposition when considered in terms of the monetary benefits the forum can accrue from it. Sticking to the core values in the face of such an onslaught is very difficult. I commend the originators and moderators in staving off such advances. Nevertheless, I have a grouse which I would like to share at this moment—excuse my mistake if you believe it’s out of place to describe it here—that bottom right pop-up of an ad that shows up the moment a link is clicked on this forum is quite disconcerting. I wish that could be curbed somehow to pop-up only once when a thread is clicked, and not to pop-up every time a new page of the thread is opened. But that’s just my opinion. Take it with a pinch of salt!
An idea that has been brought into effect: The accumulation of threads with a common denominator. It was long due, and it has served a purpose in terms of the reduction of replicant threads. However, this is an opportunity that one would not like to get past before one would like to draw the attention of moderators in bringing out a feature on such long-threads: Create a form of break-points or bullets followed by links which lead to those posts in that long thread which are an example of a well-crafted opinion that may or may not encapsulate all the ideas prior to that post but are a revelation in itself and are a joy to read. I know, you have been doing us a big favour in your prompt response to such posts in terms of bringing it to the forefront i.e. home page. However, as new links get added to that stack on daily basis such wonderfully crafted posts get buried under it. Thus, highlighting them in the form of bullets or breakpoints at the beginning of those long thread of which they are part of shall do them justice.
The job done by the moderators in terms of ejecting venom-spewers who commit modern day ‘trolling, abuse, personal attacks’ is commendable.
I hope AI derivatives like ‘ChatGPT’ stay away from this forum. You state categorically that they “are game changers, but not necessarily in the area of content. On Team-BHP, we take pride in our original thoughts, ideas & opinions. We're here to learn from one another, not a machine.” I hope you stick to it; I have no idea what that monstrosity is, and frankly if someone were to ask me about it, I would gladly spell ‘ChatGPT and that’s about it!
Whether online or an over-the-counter purchase, this insistence on sharing mobile number or email addresses has become an all-pervasive activity. What these recipients of such vital information do behind our backs is no longer a chimera. They are willing to sell it to gain monetary benefits and the worst part is big behemoths in their respective fields are indulging in it. This is outrageous. I would like to thank Team-bhp team in making sure such vital pieces of information are not divulged.
In this day and age, -- I know this is the second time I am beginning a sentence with that—where the visual form of expression is gaining popularity whether via the age old television or the modern day YouTube and streaming platforms, etc do not bring about the twilight of the written form of expression to an extent that all one sees when opening a thread is pictures and videos with little or no written form of content. Anyways, with the availability of the tons of misinformation peddling mediums; its already becoming difficult to dig through it or evade it altogether to find out genuine, honest, legitimate information mediums.
I would like to end this post of mine, with heartfelt congratulations to the Team-BHP team for their immense contribution to this forum and sticking to their ideals and hope they continue to do so in the future. |
