Re: VW Polo/Vento : Replaced stock RCD320 with RCD330 Plus + rear view camera installation guide

Hi Guys,

I have the following set-up in my car which has a RCD 330 Plus (Desay Unit). I am keen to do this DIY!

I opened my HU yesterday to understand the current set-up and what do I need to purchase.

There are two cables I can see
The rear view camera cable with yellow color and the convertor with blue socket (with two thin wires plugged in). This is plugged on the left side slot in the system currently. This one fits in the right one also, but some diagrams in the thread above show them in the left one.
There is one more cable, which I dont know the purpose off. The black cable with the Grey socket.

Can someone who understands this please help me on how to configure the rear view camera? Basically,
  1. What to do with the Yellow cable?
  2. What to do with the Black cable?
  3. What to do in the VCDS Module?
  4. Do I need to purchase anything for a successful setup?

Hey there.
What's the exact version of RCD330+ that you're using?
I have a Desay 187b unit which supports Carplay along with Mirrorlink and Baidu Carlife.

Hello, I'm new to the forum and would like help to enable Mirrorlink on my RCD330G as my Oneplus device doesn't yet support it. The link provided by Gannu to his dropbox for the files needed does not open and maybe possibly old. Can Gannu or anyone please provide me with the Drive2.ru link for the needed files?

Majorly a lot of Samsung Devices support Mirrorlink. Oneplus phones can only be connected via Android Auto or the other mirroring method.

What exact version of RCD 330G are you using? The Noname/Desay or the one that comes stock with the car?

Re: VW Polo/Vento : Replaced stock RCD320 with RCD330 Plus + rear view camera installation guide

Guys,
Any idea what reverse camera will fit my 2016 Vento (It has the electronic boot release switch in the middle of the two LED number plate lights)
I’ve been trying to find something that’ll fit it, on AliExpress, but haven’t had any luck with one that has both an electronic boot release button as well.

Attaching a not so great pic of the finished installation.

The usual suspects apply here as well; no OPS on screen and no sync with the instrument cluster dot matrix.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask; I'll try and help out as much as I can.

Oh and btw, no custom duty was levied on the product. Guess I got lucky. Or...

Nothing appears broken yet so hopefully that was just the seller's way of trying to avoid Customs.
Hi Tweaker..!
Quite informative posts there .!
Since you have installed the unit since quite sometime now, I have some questions I hope you can help me with:
I have a Jetta CL 2014 and want android auto, BT, Reverse camera. For these I think RCD 340g is the best fit.

1. Will the steering controls work with the HU? Shalender (the guy who provides these in Delhi) told me I will have to change the steering for the controls to work which is an additional expense of 40k.
2. Does it support rear camera?
3. How is the sound quality in comparison to RCD 300+ (in case you had the same unit)?
4. Does it support 8 speaker output (my Jetta came with 8 speakers and no BT)
5. In case I don't opt for 340 and go for 330, would the mirror link in it mirror the Google maps on my android phone over the HU?

Amy help on these would be really great. Thanks.

Yes the steering controls work. The only issue I've faced is that the fader doesn't work from front to back; only works left to right. I've read that this can be solved by VCDS but haven't done this yet.

Asked the seller (Lemon Shark), what the difference was between 187B, 187E and 187F (as they all have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay):
Apparently 187B has 512mb ram, 187E has 1024mb ram, and 187F also has 1024mb ram but has slightly updated and more stable software. I believe all should be a plug and play fit for 2012 or later polos. (I have a 2016 GT with the RCD330 with mirrorlink only so not expecting any issues).
More info available here and here. The seller is very responsive and also has excellent reviews so everything should be nice and smooth. Lots of positive reviews for 187F as well. May have to pay 1-2k in customs but perfectly fine with that, else may not have to, lets see!

Will update in a few weeks time once I've received the head unit and installed.
Great to see that you ordered the HU from Lemonshark. Event I ordered the same unit few days back from the same seller.
How has your experience been so far with the unit? How is the sound quality? Did you install the reverse camera?

Playing videos on Car Infotainment System

Can't over-emphasize how bad and risky it is to play videos on the Car Infotainment System, and I think we have a thread going on in Team-BHP universe somewhere that newer cars are going for non-touch screens to avoid distraction (and rightly so IMHO)

But my question is about a stopped car with handbrake engaged, if we can play videos from a USB pen drive - can we do the same thing somehow by mirroring phone screen and utilizing an internet connected app like Youtube may be?
It's not something, that I am aware of at least.
If we can't, why not, as it potentially contains the same risk as playing videos from a USB pen drive.

The idea is to have access to more content, as opposed to old world way of downloading, copying videos to USB pen drive and then carrying them back to the Car - that seems so slow in today's connected world!

Not talking "Youtube Music" app as it plays only audios, not videos.
Also jail-breaking or hacking the system is not the right way to do it, so is out of discussion for this thread.

Re: VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System) for VW & Skoda - Discussion Thread

Hey guys,

I am trying to install reverse camera in my 2019 (June) GT TDI and no matter what combinations that we have tried, nothing seems to be working.

I understand that the OEM Headunit that I got is RCD 340G since I have Android Auto. Has anybody tried installing this on their OEM HU and if yes, can you please share the details on the correct installation method?

Hi Vikram, I just got the aftermarket reverse camera up and running in my car last week. My ownership thread is pending an update on that. Few queries first:

1. What camera have you installed?

2. Have you installed a delay timer circuit to power the camera?

3. Have you done a bench test to see if the camera outputs the display when you power it up using 12V and connect it to a TV's video in using the RCA jack?

4. Have you gone through this post (VW Polo/Vento : Replaced stock RCD320 with RCD330 Plus + rear view camera installation guide)?

Thank you Ganesh for a quick reply and moving my post to this thread.

Here are my updates:

1. What camera have you installed?
- Not sure about the make, but I can check and update.

2. Have you installed a delay timer circuit to power the camera?
- I don't think this is done.

3. Have you done a bench test to see if the camera outputs the display when you power it up using 12V and connect it to a TV's video in using the RCA jack?
Nope, not done.

4. Have you gone through this post (VW Polo/Vento : Replaced stock RCD320 with RCD330 Plus + rear view camera installation guide)?
- I had not and now that you have shared it with me, I will.

I will update this thread with my findings. Thank you once again.

Vikram, you also need to enable the respective bit Back-up Camera Installed under Long Coding in Radio-56 through VCDS.
