Car Play ICE recommendations for 2011 VW Polo in Bangalore

Hello All,

I'm looking for some recommendations for an ICE upgrade to my 2011 Polo 1.6 Highline. I still have the original/stock in-car entertainment system.

With the recent announcement that Apple will now allow Google Maps on Car Play, I am now tempted to change the stock ICE to a better system. I have asked around in the VW service center, but they said that the newer systems can't be fitted into my car. I'm not sure if this correct, but I'll take their word for it.

I'm just looking for a system that will pair with a phone for music, phone calls and Google Maps integration.

Here's the advice I'm looking for ...

1. Where to buy a system in Bangalore?
2. I don't want to change the factory fitted speakers. I'm not an audiophile and the stock speakers sound just fine to me.

As to the actual ICE itself...

Must haves:
  1. Apple Car Play and Android Auto. I don't use an Android phone, but in case I sell the car, it would be a nice to have.
  2. The ICE should match the car interiors as much as possible and should be able to change lighting (red) to match the car's stock interiors.
  3. FM Radio.
Nice to haves:
  1. Wireless Car Play connectivity. Since Car Play needs a USB connection to the phone, I think I'll have to get a hole drilled somewhere in the central console area of the car for the socket. I'd rather not do that. But that being said, I think that with these things, a direct wired connection might just work better for initial setup.
  2. Capacitive touch screen. But I don't have direct experience with resistive touch screens lately and maybe this may not be needed.
What I think I don't need:
  1. Reverse camera
  2. Video playback
-Thanks!

You could try Aliexpress - contact these people and ask if they have something that fits.

Re: Car Play ICE recommendations for 2011 VW Polo in Bangalore

Usually off the shelf head units with Android Auto and Apple Car Play cost a pretty penny , at least they used too , depending on your budget.
From my experience in getting an audio overhaul in my car, I was suggested by everyone I approached to install a Pioneer Head Unit , I did not at the end.
Alas I don't think I'm much of an audiophile to understand what they meant.
However , having said that I feel Pioneer makes great head units and the ones linked in the description should meet your needs.
They have a few units with Only Apple Car play as well.
Hope this helps

You should go with RCD 330g Plus, it has absolutely OEM looks, in fact it comes with the newer models, the touch screen is very responsive, UI is uncluttered and very intuitive and it is very VFM. You will need a CANBUS simulator cum connector. It is plug and play. Get in touch with the seller and he will further assist you. Here is a link with good reviews and 600+ orders.

While everything is working fine - i had a few queries

- Album art doest appear when BT streaming (havent tried USB playback) - is there a way to enable this ?
- Is there a way to put some Album Art against the FM stations ?
- I have parking sensors in my car - both front and rear. When i engage reverse - music stops and beeps come on but no display on HU. Is there a way to enable the OPS display ? Do i need to do VCDS coding or i need to add any module ?
Sorry to bump such an old post, but was a solution figured out for this? I'm thinking of ordering https://www.aliexpress.com/item/CarP...847367189.html for my Jetta CL and no OPS display would be a bummer.

EDIT: Read through the remaining posts in the thread to realise that this may be due to OPS not being CAN addressable for Comfortline Jettas. Curious to know if any solution had been found out for this nonetheless.

This one might work - rather expensive but quite a high spec for the price

I think the OP and most of us are looking for OEM systems and not aftermarket one's like these.

But who told you the other links you posted (eg https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3283...ddresstype=600 from a previous thread) are OEM?

100% aftermarket, though they have the exact same look and feel as the VW original, and most probably bundle a VW pirated / reverse engineered firmware in order to maintain compatibility with the car.

What you are saying might be true, but I'm looking for an OEM look along with support for Carplay and Android Auto. Saw the 187E on my friend's Vento TSi and was bowled over by the performance of the newest HUs that VW has put in their cars.

The origin of HUs that are being sold on AliExpress is sketchy at best as most of the sellers claim that the systems have been taken straight off VW cars and then had their firmwares updated/modified. I would love to get the MIB2 discovery pro that came with the last batch of Jettas but those systems are selling for unbelievable amounts right now.

The newest 187E units have arrived on AliExpress as well although they are quite expensive ATM. I'll update the group once I've finalized on a unit. Thanks!

MIB2 systems wont work in our cars - they need activation by the dealer which Indian guys wont do. I even asked my dealer here in bangalore to order one for me but he refused to do so.

Here is the one i recently bought - works like a charm.

Oh this unit is being sold by Yacht Science! I thought they had stopped selling. Thanks a lot for the link. Just to be sure, you ordered the 187E right? And I'm guessing my 2012 Jetta CL won't need any ISO to Quadlock connector as well and should be a straight plug and play.

In the case of the Aliexpress system in my Fiesta that can't possibly have been the case because a tiny "old nokia phone" type analog display got replaced by a 7 inch Android touchscreen.

So looks like there's a substantial cottage industry that gets OEM housing / fascia for a proper fit and finish / color match, and mates it to their own android HU at the back of the unit, which is probably what the sellers have told you.

This is my Fiesta HU by the way.

It is different for VW HU's - they are proper OEM look and feel.

Yes i ordered the 187E. You do need the ISO to Quadlock connector ... i had the older version of HU before (without Carplay/Android Auto) and i had ordered the adapter at that time - so it was plug and play this time for me.
