MG Comet launched at the price of INR 7.98 lakhs.

– Charging Cost Rs 519 Per 1,000 Km

- A maximum range of 230 km on single charge.

- At Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the MG Comet EV undercuts the Tiago EV by Rs 71,000.

- MG is also offering a 3.3kW onboard charger that takes seven hours to fully charge the battery.

This looks unconventional and quirky, 'if at all' I decide to buy a small EV, I would go ahead with Tiago EV for 8.7 to 12. Although, I like this as a urban commute for 2 adults plus 1 child, but then the price I expect for that is 5 to 8 lakh segment, preferably with a design language like Smart Fortwo not like a Bajaj Qute.

This isn't going to work, particularly because of that rickshaw-like shape. Nobody would want to spend 8 lakhs on something like this. This can however in the commercial space, for example hotel cabs for short distances, etc.

That's a surprisingly competitive price. Because it is much more expensive in Indonesia, for example.

I can see this now selling 1,500+ per month.

That's a good introductory price. I'm yet to see the car in person but the interior materials seems of very high quality.

Its little too close to comfort to the Tiago. Considering the Tiago has fast charging as an option and also better boot space and 4 doors, family car buyers would avoid this.
I see this as a niche market segment who need a second car for the city.
We have a Nano XTA, and this might be an upgrade to consider for us, but like the market for Nano, majority of the buyers might skip this.
Two door cars have never been successful in India for the mass market, we have seen it with the E2O who had to bring in a 4 door variant. Even Jimny launched as a 5 door and no one understands the market better than Maruti.
Can't see this selling 4 digit monthly numbers. Would be happy to be proven wrong.

They could have priced it at 5 lakhs, it would not have mattered. They could have made it gold plated, it still would not have mattered. A tiny car that looks like THAT will never sell in India. You want to compete with WagonR and Tiago and you look like an autorickshaw! It’s never gonna work. This product was always going to be dead on arrival. The people who approved this certainly did not study the Tata Nano and the mistakes made with it.

Those tiny wheels on a tall body look gawd awful.

There is only one variant is it? If that's the case the Tiago EV XE is extremely barebones, and MG managed to undercut it by nearly 1L (OTR price). Good job MG. I feel MG will see many takers for the Comet.

IMO, no fast charging option at all will cause exponential range anxiety even for usage within the city. Will take a bit of courage to invest in this. Will take 5 hrs from 0-80%.

Good pricing IMHO. The lack of fast charging might not be a showstopper if this is meant primarily for City usage. Understand some of the members might not like the looks of this, but Creta sells in thousands
