Re: MG Motors to launch an EV at Rs 10 to 15 lakh by end of next fiscal. EDIT: Named Comet EV

It will give just an option to consider for the intended buyers. No offense but it looks like a toy. Tiago.ev will lead the segment until MS brings something like Wagon R or Alto etc which may never happen.
This could be a good option for those who have a lot of money and a lot parking space in metro cities because this may be 3rd or 4th car

This seems to be the wide angle camera. See the seltos parked in the front, it looks small too.

Saw a couple of MG Comet EVs in Central Delhi earlier today. Probably the media cars being taken for a spin !

Looks good in that Bronze color. Others presented in launch were too tacky. As many others mentioned it will do decently if priced below Tiago EV. Anything other then, it will DOA.
Also, have doubts how this will survive in Indian city roads filled with small sized craters in name of potholes. Will it tip over considering the combination of height and puny wheels?

Re: MG Motors to launch an EV at Rs 10 to 15 lakh by end of next fiscal. EDIT: Named Comet EV

Am I the only one who feels this is actually going to do well. I see a lot of them quote Reva and Qute but the trend these days is pointing to towards people seeking something more quirky and having all sorts of features which are more a sort of a gimmick. The comet perfectly fits these two and MG being a Chinese brand, I doubt more than 10% of the people are aware of it. Reva came in at a period where people were looking for cheap and at the same time being value for money and it kind of did not slot into both the categories, Mahindra successfully killed it by making the Reva a wanna be Scorpio kind of looks(The resultant design of e2o speaks for itself), while the Qute was never meant to be a car at least thats what Bajaj says.

Re: MG Motors to launch an EV at Rs 10 to 15 lakh by end of next fiscal. EDIT: Named Comet EV

Personally, I love it and think it’s the perfect city car. I’ve always looked at Smart and thought it would be fantastic here in India for anyone who wanted an alternative to a bike but with a tiny footprint and super manoeuvrability and parking. The Reva was lovely but way ahead of its time while its successor the E20 made it a full size hatch and, dare I say, did away with its charm.

I think the market has evolved and there are enough young urban professionals who don’t want a big bruiser and would be eager to latch onto something interesting and quirky which appeals to their design sensibilities while being super convenient. I mean just look at the number of men on this site who wish that the Jimny 3-door were on offer as a city runabout. I’m also sure that plenty of women will queue up for this, and easily pick this over a Tiago even if it were more expensive, for both its design language and its small footprint and drivability.

And as someone who has lived with a Hector Plus for two years now, I can say that I’m happy with MG’s overall attitude and responsiveness and would recommend them to anyone.

Incidentally, some embargo was lifted today. Powerdrift has shared pics of the interior and I personally really like what I see.

Must say I really dig that interior, especially the floor. The dashboard looks really modern and minimalistic, should be a fun place to sit in. The exterior however! I just don't see it working in India which would be quite a shame. It's a bit too funky and not what you'd call elegant.

The walkaround does say it is smaller than nano in length but wider than Alto.
Only thing to see now is the - price...

It almost feels like Golf cart Hope it does not have the center of gravity, same as that.
Fast, nippy, tall & small wheels+wheelbase (but wide).
Picture this - a fast golf cart taking a tight turn (toppled & rolled over marvelously).

P.S. Looks & safety somehow have already been undermined due to it being declared a city car(Tinyyy...)

Re: MG Motors to launch an EV at Rs 10 to 15 lakh by end of next fiscal. EDIT: Named Comet EV

MG Motors eyes 3K EVs per month sales by adding COMET, 54% localisation. Total sales to surpass 100K in CY23 as per MG PR.

Quote:
The Comet will feature around 54 percent local content at the start of production, with the company aiming to further enhance it to 60 percent by end-CY2023. While the company is locally sourcing the Comet's tyres and windshields from respective suppliers in India, the battery pack is being sourced from Tata AutoComp Systems (TACO), which in January 2022, had come into a joint venture agreement with China's Gotion, for the design, manufacture, supply and service of lithium-ion battery packs for EVs in India.

The car is likely to be priced around Rs 8-10 lakh, and will help further accelerate MG Motor India's presence in the fast growing EV space in the country. Along with its flagship EV model - ZS EV, MG Motor India is hopeful to produce and sell about 2,500 to 3,000 units of EVs every month in CY2023.

An Opportunity lost for MG India as this car doesn't have fast chagrining. TATA will launch some XYZ edition for TIAGO with all the connectivity features and drop prices like how they did when XUV 400 was launched. MG should have rather worked on getting the joy which is an copy of Jimny but in electric avatar.

As per a dealer, there will be two variants: Play and Push. The difference is not clear yet.
