Thank you Shaju . Well, the first one was done with the kit lens (18-55 Non IS). The rest (lalbagh flower show) pictures were all done with a sigma 105mm macro lens hand held, hence some softness in the second picture.

The EXIF info:

(i)
Exposure: 0.067 sec (1/15)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 46 mm
Exposure Bias: -1 EV
ISO Speed: 1600

(ii)
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 105 mm
Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV
ISO Speed: 100

(iii)
Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 105 mm
Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV
ISO Speed: 100

(iv)
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 105 mm
Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV
ISO Speed: 800

Screwed up a bit with the ISO on the last photograph and had to use NR in post processing.

C&C please .
I like the second shot! Beautiful it is.

In the first portrait, the left side of his face where light hits could have been made a bit more brighter - increased levels

Thank you Clevermax, I liked it this way. Especially with his skin tone, I wanted to give that eerie feeling to it. Here's another shot at the same place with a different friend of mine. This one is okayish...but I like the way light wraps around his body and wish I had covered more of his face.

And the second flower picture is my favorite as well .

This is a nice one. The skin looks a bit yellowish, any PP there?
How about taking the same frame with a deeper DOF so that the other end of the tunnel and the tracks all in focus?

Yeah, the skin is a bit yellowish. Should have noticed it. Well, I wasn't carrying the tripod as it was a trek. So, if I had to get that tunnel and the track in focus, I would have required really steady hands for a 15 second exposure or so (higher f number like f16 or so) . And my hands are so unsteady that I get shake even at 1/30!

So 2nd shot gets the maximum stars !!! I said it first though !!
Sigma 105 macro shows a clean and crisp result here. I am curious to know where is this track and tunnel, if you dont mind ! Just imagining myself there, lot of creativity is going through my mind ! Was it a photographers' trek ?

@Hellwrath
The first image of your friend in the tunnel has the bright spot of light as a distraction, it does no good to your pic when a person is there unless it is an essential part of the picture and relates with your subject.

I loved the second flower shot.

@clevermax
Not in Kerala, it was at Kollur, Karnataka...but he is from Kerala.

Shaju,

It's called the Green Route (Green Route - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). It used to be an abandoned railway track but now the bangalore - mangalore train uses this track. It's actually a very long trek of about 50kms covering about 52 tunnels (I think). We just did a to and fro of about 14 kms covering about 11 tunnels. And this was just a "what to do on a weekend" trek, decided upon on friday , so I was the only photographer.

Regarding the macro lens, almost all the macro lenses are very very sharp. It's just that our skills are not good enough to utilize it's capability completely.

TG,

Thank you for your valuable comment. Now, when I look at this photograph, you are right, it's not adding much. Hmm, thanks again. I will put in more thought in my next portrait .

Did an HDR after some time, 3 exposures spaced at two stops from each. No NR did in Photomatix nor in CS4. ISO 100, f/8
Woww..! Nice mix of colors there. The foot prints adds more beauty to that HDR.
