Just came back from window shopping for the LCD and checked out the following:

Sony V300 40" = 97K
Samsung R81B 40" = 80K + Tata Sky
LG Black Pearl = 86K

I must say the sony picture clarity is mind boggling and the sound system was also perfect ( they use some s-force system etc) and at max volumes there was absolute 0% distortion. And there are almost non-existent discounts ( fella showing me the tv was offering 2K lesser ).

While Samsung offers the best discounts and probably also sells the most for this very reason. Its sound clarity is not that great when compared to Sony but its looks are drop dead goregous and picture is a tad brighter, i agree but at the price but, nothing to put it down for and the price that i finalized it ( 76K) through a samsung employee who happens to be a cousin's friend + Tata Sky+ Free Installation ( To be negotiated) + Several other gift hampers like a full dinner set and a bar set etc makes it absolute VFM!

I am going to book the Samsung Bordeaux Art R81B 40" either this evening or tomorrow and will get it delivered on Dhanteras ( Nov 7th)

Best quote i got was from TMC who mentioned 82K but when i was leaving said we can drop it to 80K maximum. This offer i am getting it on a personal favor basis and is an institutional price and my set will be delivered to me directly from the factory/warehouse . I think you should check TMC and negotiate hard even on the best price they offer ( thats what happened to me 82K to 80K) but i am going through a different venue and saving an additional 4K.

@Razor, thanks will keep all posted about the performance after using it for a week or two.

what about 91k for sony 40v300a? I got one from bajaj elec., hyderabad. I got one recently. The picture quality is absolutely stunning even in normal cable tv viewing. Am sure you can get below 80k at this place. TMC is not giving much discounts because they will later want to surprise you with their cash back offers which is a bit tricky!!

Check this out - Buy.com - KWorld 1680 EX 1080i LCD TV Tuner - KW-SA220

Seems like the cheapest way to get a full HDTV... has anyone tried one of these out?

Why would you want a HD tv tuner? If you dont mind the smaller size, you could get a 22" lcd for around 15k. You can connect a xbox360 to that or watch bluray movies after you buy a bluray disc drive for your PC.

How is Akai? Compared to Samsung, Sony, LG etc?
The numbers sound good, but do they translate into reality?

The DVD R seems to be great VFM too. Was thinking of getting one, but they all cost > 20k. 5.9k is an awesome price!

Opinions, pls?

khanak, The offer looks very good, could you please provide the link from where you got this offer.

Searched for review of this Akai model but could not get, let me check out sometime next week in the shops.

At present I am inclined towards 37/40 R81. The prices in chennai are 61K & 78K
