@thad, moon is actually a light source at night. I went with similar expectations but had to reduce my exposure to lower limits since it is quite bright by itself.

if not, you would be in trouble because it moves, and will come out blurry if you used longer exposure.

Ah, yes, true, but I still found it difficult, when I tried, to get such good, clear and sharp moon pictures.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Team,

I was finally able to lay my hands on Canon SX30IS this weekend. It also coincided with the occasion for me to have a day's excursion to Dapoli. While I am still trying to figure out more things, I am attaching my first few shots with Canon SX30IS. Apart from triming the photograph to meet forums image size for uploading, the picture is not otherwise digitally altered or enhanced.

That's something like 800mm equivalent, isn't it?

And Hand-held!

I'm really astonished. Looks like you are going to have a lot of fun with that camera!

I ordered Panasonic FZ100 in Amazon for $399 (now it came to $375), got delivered in Chicago, waiting for my friend to bring it.
Yesterday got the FZ100 from my friend. Amazing camera, lots of options, so some time is really required to understand each options. Some of the highlight is the Creative Mode, High speed movie, and HD recording at 1080i.

In low light performance Canon wins, but in day light and video this is great.

Attaching one of the shots in Program Mode.

Focal Length: 108mm, ISO: 125, F/5.2, Exposure: +1.3

There is a lot of ambient light and modern IS techniques work well these days.

I'm not surprised.

Re: The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.

Got an amazing deal on the Canon SD4000 last week at Amazon. Paid $209 plus a free 4 GB card thrown in. Initially I was looking at a S90 or S95 but couldn't pass on Amazon's 1 day deal on the SD4000. I will have it in my hands on Friday and I just cant wait to try it. Primary reason to get it was a F2 lens at 28mm, decent ISO performance due to a back lit CMOS sensor (by p&s standards), aperture priority and shutter priority modes.

I believe you can go to any mobile shop and get a scratch guard which fits this screen size. I am going to do the same for my FZ100, also planning to get a filter to avoid scratches to the lens.

Quick question: How to use the text stamp to display the date and time in the photos. There is one option which comes in the preview mode but that works on top of the catpured image, so everytime I need to set this.
