Had the GM version running for last 1 week, then downloaded the general release version, yesterday night. Had to unplug internet to avoid server verification, which was throwing error due to traffic choke up. But running fine since 130am

i have a iphone 2G and updated to 3.0 almost 4 days back....and it happened to be the official version also,

Actually i dont see anything remarkably new or better except copy paste and that too is no rockt science i guess,

Clippy on 2.2.1 used to work far better for me

the overall speed of phone is also the same except the camera

Has bugs syncing contact list as well....lets see the stability part after few days of usage

Problem solved, working fine.
problem was just because some files were not found on computer so itunes was not syncing the library.

@aman: i just saw your post I dont have any issues with 3.

Things i really appreciate after loading OS 3:

- Copy, Cut & paste, shake to undo
- Text forward
- Internet teethering, really helpful while i travel
- Landscape mode for emails
- Kewl quote options where by the copied part alone get forwarded or replied!
- Multiple picture attachment for email
- Notes sync
- Multiple calendar sync
- Safari with auto fill etc
- Overall 3G phone has become snappy, finally they have done really good optimization

Lots more as i explore further.

I know most of the critics would say we already had it in other phones, but trust me apple has this unique user friendly implimentation that leaves others, just wannabe's!

Need some help here. I am still on 2g 1.0.2. now i'll be upgrading to 2.2.1. I have an airtel connection. Just wanted to ask does gprs(edge) work on unlocked 2.2.1?
I am not sure about it, thats the reason i am not upgrading.

hey just just wanted to keep you updated on this which 1000s of others are experiencing along with me on 3.0 on a iphone 2G:

1.) Battery life not as good as earlier

2.) Phone getting hot when charged

3.) Not charging beyond a point...

Now some people are also telling me that my number has been unreachable. they get "number not available" message...

see here as well:

Apple - Support - Discussions - Original iPhone 3.0 upgrade - No ...

Apple - Support - Discussions - Poor Battery life after 3.0 update ...

Iphone 3.0 Jailbreak & Unlock

** As many know today is the I-day for unlockers and jailbreakers. I am desperately waiting for the dev team to release the Quickpwn, Pwng tool and Ultrasn0w. I have one computer dedicated to their site to catch the first update.

How many of us are desperately waiting to unlock their phones? Mine's bricked since 6 months and only this can save it. Thought of taking a poll.

These are all typical reports that pop with any release, i dont know if it was for real or NOT. I dont have any of these issues and right now charging the phone after last software update and phone is absolutely normal wrt heat.

Most of these are reported by people who jailbreak and unlock.

Downloaded Pwnage 3.0 for mac and jailbroke my iphone 2g (1st gen).
No issues. All things working seemlessly.
Few issues to take care:
- If you use categories (folder options) on your previous version of iphone, make sure you uninstall it and then take a back up. Otherwise the apps (official ones from itunes) will not show in 3.0 although itunes will say they are synced. Then the only workaround is to restore, jailbreak again and set up as new phone and thus loose sms, fav, call log etc.
- make sure you update from itunes 8.2 and not 8.1. Or else error 1604 will appear.
- wifi may not work on some phones first time. for this: select the network, and tap on forget network. then switch off wifi from iphone. then reboot your wifi router and once it is fully upto speed, restart wifi on iphone and join the network.
- iphone mail will crash on launch after restore from old back up. you will need to delete all accounts on iphone and re-enter them manually
- for getting gprs settings on iphone go to unlockit.co.nz from your iphone safari. For vodafone users type www in APN and click install.

Any other issues let me know.

If windows users want the custom ipsw file, let me know. Bombay guys can pick it from me or some do a google search to find and download them.

I'm skeptical about upgrading to 3.0 on my 2g iPhone as the phone ain't half as quick as the 3g hence it might crash often.

No crashes as of now. Seems to be a stable system. Loaded all my app store apps as well as a lot of cydia apps. Works fine. I'm on the 2g iphone as well.
