You can get an adapter for 100-150bucks at any shops that sell unlocked iPhones.

If you do get a contract iPhone from there, remember that someone has paid for it. So he will be charged for the services monthly even though he is not using the phone.
I would rather buy the 599 or 699$ non contract phone an use it here. It'll still be cheaper than the aitel and Vodafone pricing.

Thanks Tejas for helping on this one.

Seems like for all my queries you always have a perfect solution or answer. First your thread helped me go for i10 kappa, then you helped on alloys for them, now iphone connectivity.
Next time rather posting, instead I would rather PM you JK

Thanks for the info and advise Tejas. Can you or anyone confirm the prices of the iPhone 3G (older model) without contract in USA (just like its 599 or 699$ non contract 3GS) ?

Ok as the title read, 3.0.1 update has been released to public, this is to fix a security issue with SMS app.

Meanwhile 3.1 is under Beta 3 and should be out in couple of weeks according to forums, will have some minor tweaks wrt functionality

Upgraded to 3.0.1.
Works well without issues.
Download and restore via iTunes and then use redsnow to jailbreak.
Setup as new phone.

As per Apple's announcement during the 3gS US launch was that the phone would launch in India on Aug 8th. Any idea if this is still on track? As there is no ads yet from either of the carriers.
@tejas: can u list significant differences between 3.0 & 3.0.1.

My sources in vodafone tell me august 9th.

The update was released to patch a serious security flaw in the sms. Apparently any hacker just needs your mobile number and can send you a blank sms and completely take over your phone and can turn on your camera, make calls, send smses and emails. So if you receive an sms with just a square shaped font, switch off your phone immediately and remove your sim and upgrade.

This update is only to patch this flaw. No other changes.

I am waiting for the 3GS too and now that 9th has come and gone, looks like end of Aug is more likely from Vodafone & Airtel.

HI guys,
one more query I had, I was planning to upgrade from iPhone (1st version) 8GB to iPhone 3GS, which is coming shortly in India.

I wanted to ask, what should be the price I should expect for my iPhone 8GB which I bought in March 08 from US. Till now, im planning to go gaffar market to sell it off. Any other place where I can find a better price ?

Inferno, you'll be lucky if you get 8k for it. Rather keep it as a spare.

@Inferno: I have the 2g iPhone 8gb too and have been quoted 10-12k for it.

I believe the 3gS has launched in Mumbai for 45k ! Don't think it's allll that better than the 2g to command such a high price. I might just switch over to the dark side- BB !

Sahil - I happened to see a 3GS in operation (Steeriods) .. and believe me - there is NO COMPARISON to the 2G or the 3G versions - the 3GS blows everything clear into the water! Its blazing, blazing fast! It also takes exemplary photos and videos!

The best place to get a 3GS iPhone will be from HongKong - where you will get an officially unlocked set for 32k right now. (local regulations don't permit locking of any sort). So you don't have to worry about updates/cracking etc for ever!

I am more than tempted!

Thanks sahil for the info..
no thanks for tejas; bowing for him

Anyways, I'm upgrading as I've literally used the batteries to maximum, and the battery can go kaput anytime and that's 1 primary reason to upgrade. But if its launched for 45k, the no ways I'm buying it ! I wont shell more than 30k for it.

And for my 2g iPhone, people were saying that I can get 13-14k or more. Anyways, I will check it out and update here , whenever I sell my phone.
Earlier I was thinking of selling it right now and wait till 3GS gets launched. But seeing the 45k price tag, I'm not doing this.
