I have issues with my MMI in that it does not seem to detect satellites almost half the time. I am in Hyderabad and I notice this mostly in the day time - has anybody else noticed this?

It takes some time to lock for the first time. I dont think it should keep searching all the time.

@shamanth

you purchased your MMI-VX140 through ebay.
Did you able to register the product with MMI on their website?
(only those who can register with MMI can get the updates from them?)
?

thanks information.
Unfortunately, am still waiting for discount voucher from ebay.
( I used the earlier one with 5% discount, for some other purchase anticipating that they will give another one at 10% - but some how it is delaying)

Think, I will waint couple of days otherwise will buy without discount as I need this by first week of december prior I go for long drive.

Normally ebay discount works this way. If you don't buy for sometime in ebay you might get 10% or even 15% voucher. If you keep buying regularly they will send 5% voucher only.

Yes, looks like.
Last 5% voucher was valid upto 18th Nov.
After that I didnt recieve the new one so far.
Even 5% discount (Rs.700/-) is worth waiting, for couple of days.
Thanks

MMI ordered: delivered in 48 hrs!

I booked a Garmin 215W from MMI around lunch time on Monday. The same was delivered today to me by GATI. I am impressed.

It completed its initial locking in within a few minutes and is raring to go.

Now I need to get another holder so that I can shift it between cars.

Cheers,

About 17K 16,990/- to be precise.

Now a question from my side:

I want another cradle, windshield mounting kit and car charger, where can I get these?

Cheers,

Hi,
Would like your comments on map coverage and accuracy when you move out of the city.

If MMI's website, (and Yahoo maps, which source their India maps from MMI) is anything to go by, coverage in NE is very poor. Though I have a number of GPSr units, the first map I bought (not from MMI) was so bad that I never bothered buying another one again. From any vendor.

Did you get your map on a CD or SD card? If on a SD card, have they officially told you how to view it on Mapsource?

The one problem I have faced often is that, while on some highways the map shows that you are beside the highway rather than on it.
I would rate it as a great feature, rather than a bug. You know where you are, even if it does not look good. The alternative is worse. To align pointer/ track to roads, the units run a "lock to road" algorithm. The downside is that the tracklog you are recording is no longer a record of where you were, but of where the manufacturer thinks you should have been, as per his maps.

Garmin has been "dumbing down" its units of late. "Lock to road" used to be a selectable option in the older units along with the ability to record raw tracks. These are being removed from most new Nuvi units until and unless you hack into the unit/ activate easter eggs.

Could you list the fields recorded. Altitude? Can the unit record waypoints? With timestamp?

Regards

Registered with Garmin & MMI

I completed my registration process with both MMI and Garmin. No problems at all. One needs to connect the device to the computer using its mini-USB port for the Garmin registration.

Both took about 15 minutes in all.

I have taken two short drives with the device on and no issues. One can drive by the oral instructions alone. The map too is accurate (at least for Hyderabad & Secunderabad).

Cheers,

This is what I have ordered for my Nuvi 760. Not sure when will I get it.

Shop in the US from India @ 20North - Navgear ME201133 Universal Dashboard Mount for Portable GPS Units : Electronics

Most inexpensive and mobile I guess

First, I picked a similar one (of carmate brand). My Nuvi 760 (widescreen) did not fit in :(
Hence ordered the above thingy.
