Sorry to ask I did not understand the reason, one would like to connect a GPS device to a PC.
Its useful if you have a Car PC. That PC serves the role of HU
+ GPS + OBD reader + etc.

i am using map my india on windows mobile (htc diamond) and I have realized that it does not say the names of roads, simply says right or left, etc.
Also I have found no way to put name of destination - all I can enter is plot number, road name and city. Given that in most cases one has no clue of this 'number', I am not sure how to enter destinations. eg. I can't put 'raheja residency, 7th main road, koramangala'. I need to put 'no. 10, 7th main road, koramangala'
Maybe I am too used to google maps!! just wish google added a lady's voice to its maps software and we can forget about mapmyindia and satnav!

Looks like a good deal. I would like one but I think I will wait for a while for prices to come down lower.
A quick search about this product resulted in this.

Actually I just entered the model number in google.

There is a ecosystem of parts suppliers and integrators around this niche segment. E.g : iRide Technologies - Home

@NFB, With regards to Garmin 205W, I found that all the 200 series do not support custom routing.

I though this should have been one of the most basic features, which any GPS device should support. This is available only on the higher end models.

Lesson Learnt: Need to be careful, when choosing a product. What we think is a basic feature may not turn out to be one after all according to the product company.

All your help, to get me up on a routable map in Mapsource is of no avail!

Garmin needs to smell the coffee.

Let me check if there is a way out (Like export to gpx in Mapsource and import in Garmin)

i use Google Maps on my HTC Diamond ever since our Pondichery trip in June last year. we were tired from sightseeing and shopping and wanted to have dinner. checked Google Maps and it gave 100% accurate turn by turn directions to the restaurant! it gave me directions via narrow streets too! i was never thought Google Maps would be so accurate!

ever since, if i'm in need for directions, Google Maps it is! i had to get a car charger for the Diamond coz using the GPS continuously takes a big bite outta my Diamond's battery!
