R22 / R410a cannot be the same unit. The latter requires almost 3x higher working pressure. I guess they give you either depending on their mood)?).

Most of the split AC models of Voltas, Carrier, Bluestar, LG, Samsung have R-22 only. In addition most of LG and Samsung models have Aluminum condensers. Very few models have R410a as refrigerant gas.

Surprisingly almost all models of Hyundai and Mitashi have R410a along with Copper condensors. No R-22 models.
How is Hyundai, considering the fact it is a part of Hyundai Automotive?

Amazon is selling 1.5 Ton Carrier 5 Star non inverter AC at 34K. I think we will go with this most probably.

Local Daikin dealer seems to be interested only in bulk sales.

I can strongly recommend the following brands for AC purchase: Daikin, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (not Mitsubishi Electric).

We have 2 Daikins and 1 Hitachi.

@Kestrel5915; I mostly agree with you. However the service support of Hitachi is dodgy to say the least. I may add Panasonic to your list, not as good but close.

Finally bought a Godrej 3 star AC.
It has a copper condenser and Eco friendly R410A. Bought it from Pai International in Malleswaram. The AC was delivered and installed within 24 hours!

Costed my 26,300 including installation and V-Guard Stabilizer. Has good cooling capacity. The AC was Rs.25000. Additional 1300 for extra cable, outdoor stand and electricals.

Since you already have issues with Daikin why do you want to sink more money in to the brand.

The reviews are certainly not biased towards Daikin and there are others with R32 machines. Off the top of my head I recall Mitsubishi and General both offering compressors running this gas.

Based in that I nailed down Hitachi Waza i3200 RSG312EAEA. Went to a dealer and on some bargaining got a quote of 37000/-

I told them about the situation of existing piping done. They called Hitachi service manager who sent a technician to check the piping. He says that there are two copper pipes you have installed, one is 1/4 and the other is 1/2(half). Whereas the i3200 requires 1/4 and 3/8 pipe. So the second pipe would need to be changed.

Since I was a bit reluctant to redo the interior part again, he said installer could do the juggad of cut and solder and it would work. But Hitachi doesn't recommend it.

He said I could go for 1.5 tonne in the same variety which is RSG317EAEA and it requires 1/4 and 1/2 pipes so it should work for me.

Thought Hitachi due to the above website and I have been using a three door Hitachi inverter series Refrigerator since past two years with no issues.

Now the question guys and need your help -

1. Should I go with this brand as far as AC is concerned?
2. If I should, then my next query is, 1 tonne has an EER of 3.94 and rated power consumption of 1000 watts, whereas the 1.5 tonne model has EER of 3.71 and rated power consumption of 1635 watts. Considering that my use would be 4 months of summer which includes afternoon 4 hours and night 8 hours, this being inverter I am unable to assess what would be difference in power consumption between the two. If it's very nominal then it makes sense that I go for 1.5 tonne as the price difference is around 3000-4000 INR. But if the power consumption difference is significant then keeping in mind long term use it would make sense that I get the interior changes done to accommodate copper pipe for 1 tonne and go with 1 tonne model.

I am going for inverter keeping in mind savings in power bills in the long run and to not pinch my pocket even if my usage increases in future.

Seeking your guidance for the same.

I want to buy a 1/1.5 ton inverter AC. Room size is 12 X 12 , so was wondering if 1 ton is sufficient?

Now, need suggestions on the brand. Have shortlisted carrier,daiken,toshiba,hitachi,mitsubishi,blue star,panasonic.

Main requirements are

-> Inverter AC with 4/5* rating
-> Good installation and ASS in Bangalore
-> Trouble free running
-> Silent operation

A brand having a good reputation in one city may not have a good reputation in other city when it comes to service. So people in Bangalore who have installed AC from the above mentioned brand can kindly recommend.

The Sharp saga continues.

Now it is shutting down, flashing a 6-0 error. turning off and on again, it runs: sometimes for hours sometimes only a few minutes. Our AC man is going to make enquiries as to whether the board can be serviced, or if he can find a scrapped machine to swap parts from. In tune with some posters on this thread, he says that he will not take on inverter machines, as repair is so complex. Even I can now appreciate that it is a lot more about electronics than mechanical/plumbing tinkering.

But I am stubborn. I am determined to keep an inverter AC for the bedroom at least, as it gives double the comfort levels. Call me stupid. Probably true.

For the Sharp, much more than double.

I have no choice but to write this off as buying a lemon. Wasted my money. If I have a similarly high cost caused by expensive spares and/or short life with a Panasonic, then I'll return to old technology with my tail between my legs. And buy second-hand!

Have had a very bad experience with Videocon 1 ton AC installed in the bedroom; so went ac hunting last night.

Two stores in Mira Road running offers for Gudi Padwa.
@ Vijay Sales liked the General AC with a 1+4 warranty, inverter 36k and non inverter 30k. Installation is 1000 bucks. They will give me 3000 off in exchange for the Videocon AC

@ Malaika liked the LG inverter AC , 1 Ton as it is priced at 35k. Installation is 500
bucks. Most important factor is that LG comes with a complete Copper and 10 year warranty and will give me 4000 exchange for Videocon

I have burnt my fingers with the Videocon AC and 10 year warranty is mouth watering. We have LG - refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven and they all have been good soldiers so far. Therefore the temptation to buy LG is higher.

Would really like some inputs from the experienced here as to what should I be choosing.
