I checked at a store and they didn't have any 14" Haswell laptops available - they have a choice of 3 sizes: 15", 13", and 11". The 11" and 13" are from Sony; the 11" laptops are cheaper and have touch screen as an option; the 13" laptops are priced higher and are without touch screens; they have SSD and HDD models. I can't comment on the price difference between 14" and 15" as I haven't seen a 14" Haswell laptop yet. Perhaps after the Gitex later this month, we'll see more Haswell-powered laptops coming to the store shelves.

guys anyone know a good laptop repair shop in south delhi ?

I called up acer service center to get my acer 1810 repaired of which the fan is making a loud whining sound. But theu said the laptop is very old and obsolete and they don't keep spare parts for old models.

I can vouch for Dell! I have a Inspiron 6000(Bought in mid 2005), solidly built still doing duty back home. Last year, bought a regular 'XPS 15' to be with me. No regrets! They do have a thin series on XPS. Dell service is top notch!

My inspiron keyboard was replaced within 24 hours of raising the request.

About battery, most of the dell laptops have option for 9 cells. Go for the highest, if you are in need of maximum backup.

I have always been partial to Thinkpads. At present I have the Thinkpad x60s, bought more than six years ago. This is now obsolete. Their latest X series are quite nice and light.

There are lots of new laptop launches at the Gitex Shopper event in Dubai targeting every budget. Lenovo has the Flex series of laptops, and msi has the GT60 20C laptop with WQHD display and 16GB RAM. Many outlets are also taking the opportunity to clear out old stocks so there are many Ivy Bridge laptops on sale at a low price.

Fully agree on Dell. I have a 7 yr old Dell Latitude D600 thats STILL working perfectly well on XP. They always gave me great service, but none needed on this laptop so far!

I also ordered a Dell Latitude 6530 this week to replace my HP 6730b which was lousy.. hinges broke, keyboard came apart.. plus rubbish service in India.

I recently bought a Sony Fit 14215. 5 days into the purchase, the hard disk crashed. The laptop was given to Sony care. They took a backup of all the data and promised to replace the HD. The new range has thinner hard disks which was not immediately available. So they replaced the whole laptop with a new one. The restored the data (~200 GB) and gave it.

The laptop is a 14" one with 4GB RAM, 500GB, 3rd Gen i3 processor, Win 8. It is giving me a battery backup of 5-7 hrs which is pretty good and I am happy. It is very slim, light weight. Overall it is a good option in the sub 40k bracket.

Just curious but when was the last time you had to use their service? Because Dell's customer support has been offloaded to Wipro and ever since then, it has gone downhill.

There have been instances when laptop replacements (under warranty) were not done promptly either due to the unavailability of the part (in which case, they should replace it with an upgraded version) or the lack of proper communication from the support or the service technicians lacking proper knowledge (sometimes the user is far more informed than the technician himself!).

In that regard, I can vouch for Lenovo. They do offer on-site support and extended warranty as well. I never had to use one (own a B490 laptop personally) so far so cannot comment on the effectiveness of their support but I can safely say Dell's present day support is not what it used to be back then.

My experience with Lenovo in the last 6 months - it's pathetic.

And I am pretty sure Lenovo support is outsourced to either Wipro or HCL. I had talked to them during my issue, but I don't remember which of the 2 it was, right now.
