Is there any advantage of having points? I mean, is it just a fun element or do you get to have more priveleges to use Waze?

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Guys, Just started using waze ( a first time GPS user). The first time i tried with GPS and AGPS. The second time i tried with GPS alone. Though i was able to get a GPS lock, waze doesnt show me directions. Am i doing anything wrong? Is AGPS always required?

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Calculating the route requires a active internet connection, but sometimes the routing server goes down. AGPS isn't a prerequisite, but should give you a faster satellite lock.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

I was using Waze for quite sometime and now have changed to another app, 'navfree India' for iPhone. Its awesome - knows most of the roads and once the route is calculated, it works even if gprs is not available.

Do try it.

Does NavFree India also show traffic data based on other users?

The main problem i see with Waze is that there are far too less number of users. Waze has been on iphone and andriod market for quite some time, and it still has very few users. So, i would expect NavFree to be even less accurate to show the traffic data.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Exactly my feeling, too few users. I was using Waze religiously for about 4 months every time I was on the road, found out that the traffic reports that I got was from my own phone in too many instances which ultimately discouraged me. Good concept otherwise.

Same here. I also relinquished my Area Manager role, partly because I found most (almost all) of the "Map Problems" were apparently reported just for the sake of earning points, and had no useful data for making any correction.

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

Used this earlier, wasn't satisfied with it so uninstalled it.

Have started using it again since the last week - I can see a lot of improvements.

A few questions..

1) If I edit on cartouche, say join a road why doesn't it show up ? It's been 3 days already !

2) How to name the landmarks that I edit ?

3) On the WEH in Mumbai, it doesn't show the flyovers..I want to edit but am confused how to go about it.

Any pointers ?

Re: Waze - Free satellite navigation for your smartphone

There is a new Waze version for Iphone a few weeks back. The interface i must say is much better. It also can apparantly search other search engines too (like google). I say "apparantly", because, searching for landmarks using google (within Waze) somehow did not work for me.

Yesterday I tried mapping new roads on the Mobile version itself - but since I went under a flyover, I doubt anything happened - anyone help me here ?

There's ten thousand things running in your title bar! Plus I like your vertical battery level logo. Are you running a custom ROM? Details of device please! My knowledge level? Rooted and been custom romming and overclocking for a while now. Got the Moto Droid as soon as it released in bangalore about a year and a half ago!

that's Android 2.3.5 (Nexus One OS) running on HTC HD2 (which used to run WinMo 6.5 Pro).

btw, i've been facing a issue with Waze since i installed it yesterday. while running all of a sudden Waze just does a CTD (crash to desktop). i've to reopen it to use it again.
