According to a report on Italian website AlVolante, the next generation Swift would be ready by 2016. Suzuki started production of the current generation Swift in Hungary in mid-2010 and commenced manufacturing in Manesar in mid-2011

Maruti's sub 4m suv will most probably be based on dzire and a swift on steroids on looks department, and will be priced between dzire and ertiga.
The sub-4 meter Vitara might be the new Suzuki Jimny which is under 4 meter in length & has been launched in UK off late (if I remember correctly).

Here comes the product positioning. Maruti has the perfect product positioning and they have not gone wrong in single occasion - remember for every 40k or 60k you have one car in Maruti and everything sells.Just because by providing diesel engine, it cant eat up petrol variant.
What happened in swift is a revolution of turning to diesel (no matter it happened in all manufacturers cars)

"Suzuki will launch by spring a new minivehicle featuring fuel economy in the same league as hybrids.

...the revamped Alto Eco is 20kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to a reduced parts count and a revised body design, the Nikkei said. It incorporates a number of Suzuki's environmentally friendly technologies, including a regenerative braking system and an idling-stop system. The new version travels 33km on a litre of petrol, up from 30.2km.

...It will apply the technologies used in its Japanese minivehicles to strategic models in Asia as well."

These are some serious numbers, and can we expect this model and kind of mileage in India also? If yes, then it is just Rs 2.2 per KM, and there is no need for the 800cc Diesel mill, IMO.

If suzuki can stretch a litre of petrol to 33 kms then surely a diesel could be stretched to 40 kmpl!

But both are at the farthest ends of Suzuki's SUV models!

I completely agree on the front that Maruti positions their vehicles very well, and not make any confusion in terms of engine option.

My point is: before the introduction of Diesel model, Petrol Swift was selling in the range of 6K per month, and after the Diesel model came, it outsold Petrol at a rate of 80:20. That means, on a total monthly sale of 15K Swifts, only 3K are Petrol models, and we can safely assume that the remaining 3K are converted to Diesel model.

A Swift fan will buy a Swift only, and if he is not limited to any budget (consider a Swift being give to a guy by his father-in-law!), he may prefer a Diesel.

Next Gen A Star to have amazing fuel economy!

Quote:
Suzuki is developing an ‘ECO’ variant of the next generation A-Star to provide an amazing fuel economy of 33 kmpl. To achieve this staggering figure the car is lighter by 20 kg, the design is aerodynamic and the number of components are fewer
Quote:

The A-Star ECO will employ Suzuki’s eco-friendly technologies such as a regenerative braking system and a start-stop system to improve fuel economy further.

The car will upgrade to A+ Segment making it slightly pricier than the outgoing car. There is a very good chance that Suzuki will develop a small diesel motor for the next generation A-Star for diesel oriented markets like India.

Sorry guys for being crude, but we are not getting the same engine here, & not even the Mazda derived JDM Kei Alto... so why to brag about its performance or mileage in Indian prospect.

I am sure, it will take Suzuki another 5 years before they can launch the car/ engine in India (because of the price & A-Star debacle).

The green SX4 is the new S Cross, expected in Switzerland in 2 months, the brown SX4 is the model currently on sale! There are 2 diesel engine options, a 2 litre from Renault and a 1.9 litre from Fiat. God knows when theses fancy cars will make it to our shores!

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

The ECO variant of the A-star would be a CNG version. If it it moves ahead in the segment, it will be very close to WagonR territory.

A-star will way better room than current and a revised acceptable front end and the K10 motor - if priced 50k lesser than the i10 1.2 could generate decent numbers. A CNG version on the same would also sell well in Metros where there is availability.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Hello Friends,

Any news on the new variant of Swift ( Cosmetic) as seen on the latest Maruti AD. I liked the one with the racing stripes. Is it just the cosmetic change or another facelift?

Cheers !!

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Source: http://www.livemint.com/Industry/dX9...in-a-year.html

"Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest car maker, will introduce two new models in a year’s time to replace those that aren’t selling too well as it seeks to regain market share in the world’s second fastest growing automobile market.
...
The first, codenamed YL7, is to be launched during the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, India’s biggest car show, according to two people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified before the company announces the launches officially. This car, developed on the company’s small car platform, will replace the A-Star and the Estilo, neither of which set the streets on fire.
...
The two people—one works for a Maruti Suzuki vendor and the other is a company executive—also said the firm plans to retire its sedan SX4 and replace it with a new model based on the same platform. Codenamed YL1, this car will seek to revive Maruti Suzuki’s fortunes in a segment where they have been flagging after the launches of Hyundai Motor India Ltd’s Verna and Honda Cars India Ltd’s City .
...
Maruti’s move to replace two cars with one would provide ample market space to the new product in the small car segment, which otherwise looks cluttered.
According to the person who works for the Maruti vendor, the new small car will have more interior space, a larger boot, and will try to take on some variants of Hyundai’s i10."

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

I think what Maruti needs to do now is give a ceratin semblance of structure and identity to their current small car line-up. Replacing the charcterless Estilo and the quirky but somehow lovable A-Star with one new car is a good strategy and a move in the right direction.

A sub 4 metre SUV also sounds pretty interesting, and I hope they keep the Gypsy DNA intact in whatever way they seem fitting with the current market going-ons.

Regarding the SX4 replacement, they could notch the SX4 knob a little higher and possibly pick a leaf from China speicfic Authentics Concept which looks positively delicious, at least with the de-riguer concept bits.

That would be taking the notch a little too high, the Authentics concept is a sedan larger than the Kizashi. It is aimed at the other concepts like the Mingtu(Hyundai) and Crider(Honda).
But,I agree with what you're trying to say as their 'It's a Maruti' card won't work in the above 7 lakh space as buyers are looking for a little extra and are not like the risk averse first time buyers of their entry hatches
