Yesterday I was contemplating "it would be a wonderful proposition/ product, if the Swift itself was lengthened a bit, yet under 4m in length to take on Jazz & likes", & today you/ Indian Express have revealed the same.

The Swift (espexcially the latest gen) is amongst the best small cars in the world &, anything which is marginally bigger, yet carries the same traits will definitely blow away competition of the likes of Jazz, i20, Polo, Fabia & many more. However, I do wish they launch the car with powerful engines, & also work on development of newer petrol mills to compliment the competent chassis.

Fiat's 1.6-litre diesel engine to power Maruti's upcoming SUVs.

Reports are coming that the company is planning to import Fiat's 1.6-litre 'mulitjet' diesel engines from Italy. India's largest carmaker will launch new SUVs in the market, and it felt a need of more powerful engines to power these vehicles.
According to a report published on FE, Maruti will start importing the diesel engines by the next year. It is also stated that the company will launch the new SX4 Crossover by the early 2015, which will be available with both a 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines in India. The former is already developed here in our country, so the company is planning to initially import the 1.6-litre diesel engine from Fiat. If the response are good, then it might be locally manufactured. This engine will be launched in other UVs and sedans as well.

Maruti will launch a new YL7 compact car (replacement for A-Star), which will be powered by the company's self-developed 800cc diesel engine,

I feel Maruti is loosing the plot here. Maruti is not having any new launches planned (apart from replacements of existing models) for next two years. A huge set of customers who owns Maruti's hatch backs will be looking for a change of car during these time and they don't find any interesting product in Maruti's sable. They will for sure have to move to another manufacturer, leaving Maruti to find a new customer for their long hatchback lineup.

Add to that mini- SUV's of other manufactures are having brisk sales and Hyundai is also coming up with their mini - SUV.

Maruti should have already launched their mini - SUV by now or within few months. 2 year time frame is suicidal. Based on sales figures Ertiga is the only 10+ lakh vehicle with any proper sales figure from Maruti, even the sales of Ertiga has come down in last 2-3 months. This should be a serious worry for the top management.

SX4 Crossover will be available with both a 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines in India.

The upcoming SX4 crossover, which has already been launched in Europe, will be available with both a 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines in India. The first is already made here, so the plan is to initially import the 1.6-litre diesel engine from Fiat and if the volumes are significantly high, then locally manufacture it afterwards depending on the licence agreement with Fiat.

With so many speculations and rumors on the compact SUV (Codenamed- YBA) based on XA-Alpha - hope this information is the latest.

But looks more realistic on the SX4 Crossover CUV (YAD) launch in 2014.


Maruti may launch XA-Alpha based compact SUV by mid-2014.

In order to perceive the real picture, we recently got in touch with a trusted source, which on confidentiality stated that the details of this SUV would be transparent around April next year, and the vehicle would come by the festive season.
The compact SUV will be made available in both petrol and diesel options. While the diesel SUV is expected to get the 1.3-litre multi-jet engine that does duty to the SX4, the petrol model will get the 1.6-litre engine.

Maruti Suzuki's CEO and MD, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, has clearly stated that a 2014 launch timeframe for any SUV from MSIL remains a tough ask. Even if an SUV is launched, it is the SX4 crossover that will arrive first. XA-Alpha not happening until 2015 at least.

India bound Suzuki S-Cross hits the China car market!




The Suzuki S-Cross crossover has been launched on the China car market. Price starts at 109.800 yuan ( ~11.2 lakhs) and ends at 154.800 (15.7 lakhs) yuan.



The S-Cross is powered by a 1.6 liter four-cylinder with 1.6 liter engine with 120hp and 158nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT, sending power to the front wheels or to all wheels. Size: 4300/1765/1585, wheelbase is 2600.

Yes, Carpoint-AU article confirms that it is based on S-Cross.

CARDEEP seem right, this is speculated as the iV-4, Suzuki's New 'Baby' Grand Vitara. Being tested is the prototype which will commence production at its Magyar facility in Hungary in 2015. It is for the European market.
The car is wider and tall than the SX4 S cross.
