Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Heard that there are two versions each for the new sedan and SUV from Suzuki. Both sedan and SUV will have a smaller version for Indian market, while a bigger one for other markets, but in external appearance, both will be almost the same.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti A-Star (Suzuki Alto) starts testing in India - in Gurgaon streets!

The YL7 will be a global model for Suzuki and some reports have also indicated that it would replace the Suzuki Splash (Maruti Ritz) when it goes on sale next year.

But looks like the A star /Estilo replacement.

Most importantly though, this YL7 is expected to premiere Maruti’s new two-cylinder 800cc diesel engine.Developed in-house, this engine is set to break fuel efficiency records with industry estimates pinning it at 30km/l.

I still don't know why Maruti needs another tallboy in their line up when they already have Alto800 (?), WR and Ritz in their lineup. We are losing the good low-slung cars like old Zen, old Alto, A-Star, Baleno and Esteem, and are getting tall boy hatches and sedans like this new car, Alto800, Estilo, SX4 etc!

What Maruti lacks is a genuine low-slung hatch below Swift, on the capable and stable A-Star platform with sufficient amount of leg and shoulder rooms and a boot space of around 280Ltrs.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

Maruti Suzuki is all-set to introduce the new 800cc diesel engine.

Maruti Suzuki has been busy in the process of developing small diesel will be soon be seen in the new and first under 1000cc diesel engine for the Indian car market. This will be a 800cc three-cylinder block that is being developed for its existing small car range.

This new engine will make its debut in the upcoming Maruti A-Star replacement, which is globally known as the Alto. The Alto 800 and the Wagon R could also get these engines at a later stage. The company at the moment is testing this new on this new hatchback and we can be expected to showcased at the upcoming Delhi Expo next year.

Have resemblance with the Japanese Alto for the rear and side profiles, IMO.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

The camouflaging they have used looks quite shabby (they've even hung a newspaper to keep the interiors out of view), but it does its job of hiding the car's features. I think the tail lamps are bigger than what is seen in the pictures. It's a tall boy, no doubt - which can be a good thing (no more cramped rear seats) or not (loss of handling prowess) when compared to the current A-Star. The GC looks good and the wheels seem large (14 inchers) from the pictures.

I hope the K10B is tuned to offer better low end torque. An AT would only enhance its appeal. Meanwhile, it isn't clear whether their in-house 800cc diesel engine is a two potter or a three potter. I hope it's a 3 cyl. lump as the NVH would be much better controlled.

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

This car has a better rear stance thanks to its wider body and not-so-tall height compared to WR and Estilo. (Being an international model, I hopefully expect this car in the wider A-Star platform - width: 1600mm - than the Kei-spec width.) If so, this car may handle better than the other 2 cars mentioned above (width: 1490mm).

Re: Maruti’s plans - Upgraded Swift, SX4 Crossover and an 800cc Diesel car?

This image gives the possibility of a much planted stance and bigger shoulder room for the passengers compared to the Swift and Ritz, with near-vertical side panels, and has a Datsun Go-like look!

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.6 DDiS reviewed by Autocar.

Quote:
It’s not the most civilised crossover on the block, nor is it the most stylish or desirable – but across the range as a whole, it is good value.
And if you’d rather sacrifice on those areas than on handling, performance, equipment or 4x4 usability, it could be just the functional all-season family car for your driveway.

More close up pics of the A star emerge. This next-gen model is speculated to come with a brand new Diesel engine

In the last pic, it seems like a shortened Ertiga for me!

Another image. Seems like a big hatch here. Will it replace the Ritz as well, if fitted with the 1.2L K series engine?

In the post by @volkman10, where the car (next gen A-Star) is standing next to Eeco, it appears marginally taller (at max) as the Alto800, unless the image is deceptive. I guess they are sharing parts/ chassis with Alto800.

"Maruti Suzuki India plans to launch a completely new premium hatchback within the next two years.

Due for launch in 2015-16, Maruti's new premium small car — code named 'YRA' — will be produced both in India and in Hungary for the European market. It is likely to be sold under an entirely new brand positioned above its existing premium hatchbacks Swift and Ritz. Incidentally, the Ritz will also see a facelift (2015), while the Swift will first see a facelift (2014) and then a full model change (2017).

A second source in the auto supplier industry confirmed the development. "The new YRA model could fit somewhere between the Swift and the Ritz, but the company may also position it above the Swift. It will definitely offer a diesel engine option as well. Development is in the advanced stages both in Japan (parent Suzuki Motor) and in India," the person said."
