One curious question, does anybody have any visibility over whether the base version will also have the same 150 bhp TDI engine as in the top spec? (just like Jetta gets the same engine across all the variants). ACI, a while back speculated that the base versions may get an uprated 120 bhp (the same 110 bhp tuned version; this time tuned for 120 bhp). And then, as usual, many 'Tom, Dick and Harry' websites started quoting the same thing. I am not sure anybody gave any relevant info other than the initial one from ACI.

If they launch the base manual variants (Active and Ambition), then it may rule out the base manual version for a few of us (like yours truly )

Any insightful info on the engines front?

This blue car is the same one spotted in Goa a few days earlier. The regn no. is the same. There's the white one just ahead too. Looks like the two cars are test mules doing test runs up and down the western region.

Jetta was placed higher than Laura. Does that mean there would be a spec upgrade for Jetta too?

I am not sure about the engine options. AFAIK, in the UK they have launched only two petrol options for the new Octavia now – the 1.2 TSI 105 bhp (the same expected in the Indian Polo soon), and the 140 bhp 1.4 TSI. The latter is the same engine as in the Jetta but tuned for better output. This is the base engine for the MK7 Golf as well, but has not seen making an appearance in the Jetta yet. But yes, I believe the Jetta will eventually get an update as well – probably by last part of the year.

Almost all the international media have mentioned the 1.8 TSI as an engine option for the new Octavia, but I think they will bring it only when they are ready with the launch of vRS variants. These higher output models are said to have a different suspension setup.

I am curious about the gloss black roof on the white test mule. It appears that it has a panoramic sunroof.

Nope. The black roof on the white car wasnt panoramic.

Infact it wasnt even entirely black, the latter part of the roof was body colored i.e. white

Not Quite so soon. I was at Skoda Auto office in Mumbai last Friday for a business meeting with the marketing folks. Though they refused to reveal the exact date, they hinted that the car will be launched around Diwali .

Same info got from Vinayk (dealer in BLR) that the launch was around Sept/Nov. An Offtopic update : The 2012 VINs seems to have been exhausted at the dealers, so discounts are on the nose dive.

Looks like the new octavia is sporting the 'Moon roof'. Will not open like a Sun roof but one can slide the roof panel from inside (manual or motorized) and get a view of the skies above thru the darkened outer roof panel. Much better suited for our climate than the Sunroofs that usually do not get opened up once the initial fancy wears off.

Looks like a proper sunroof which can tilt and slide. Similar to the one on the Superb.

Its the best looking car from Skoda`s stable imho. Looks amazing in white.
Btw i asked a sales executive from Skoda regarding its launch and he mentioned that its gonna be around Nov. Just my 2 cents.
