The Figo twins are getting the 1.5L diesel. The 1.4L is most likely being phased out with the current gen Figo & Classic, unless Ford does a Figo classic !

There is one thing that's different in this compact car. Most, if not all compact sedans have an almost vertical rear glass. New Figo's rear glass is more tapered from the roof to the boot, more like a proper sedan.

The 1.2-litre TiVCT petrol and the 1.5-litre Duratorq engines will be powering the new Figo twins. The diesel’s power will be toned down to about 75bhp and its torque will be about 195Nm.

Quote:
This 1.2 engine has been derived from the currently sold Figo’s Duratec engine. This has been upgraded to a newer generation of TiVCT engines. The new 1.2-litre TiVCT will produce about 76bhp of power and 103Nm of maximum torque.

I hope the 1.2L TiVCT engine is peppier than the current 1.2L Duratec, since every report I've heard mentions its tame (I've never driven it though).

And a detuned 1.5L TDCi engine? Hmm, now we'll have to wait for test drives to determine if either of the Kas come with worthy engines.

Either powerful or torque-y or not, this diesel power train will give the Kas segment topping(=i20) NVH levels.

The 1.5 tdci doesn't have such tuning states- only one version with FGT. So will ford use the same engine to power the hatch, CUV and the sedan?
Yeah, the Renault K9K is a highly versatile motor available with a wide range of outputs to power different kinds of vehicles. According to Ashok Leyland, the K9K is used by 6 different brands to power 44 vehicles worldwide!

The Ford 1.5 TDCi (derived from the global 1.6 TDCi) may not be as versatile. However, Ford does sell a 75 PS version of the 1.5 TDCi on the European Fiesta hatch. From the e-brochure of the UK Fiesta:

Ford India may be tempted to offer the 75 PS version on the new hatchback.

It's indeed the angle of the C-pillar and rear windshield that does the trick in making it look more proportionate than the rest of the sub-4m brigade. Even the stubby boot looks decent on this.

I only wish they had made the rear bumper beefier, but I guess it had to be kept thin to maximise boot space and keep it under the 4m mark.

Edit: The post by volkman10 seems to confirm that they'd be using the same. Even the 1.2 Ti-VCT looks like the one on the European Fiesta with a slight reduction in capacity to keep it under 1200cc.

So the engines would most likely be a 1.2 Ti-VCT with ~ 80 PS & 110 Nm and a 1.5 TDCi with ~ 75 PS & 185 Nm, at least for the hatchback. It's par for the course, I'd say. I hope the compact sedan gets the 1.0 EcoBoost in 100 PS guise and the 1.5 TDCi with 90 PS.

Did you see the CO2 levels for that motor :98 gm/km compared to the 120 gm/km of the 90 hp version.

This can be the new mileage king!

The European Fiesta with that engine has a combined fuel consumption of 3.7 litres per 100 km on the Euro Driving Cycle (controlled test conditions). On the presumably lighter new Ka/Figo twins, the ARAI FE figure should be 26+ kmpl for sure, may be even closer to an amazing (pun intended) 30 kmpl!

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

Doubt the 1.2 petrol motor will touch 80 ps. In the current .125 Liter form in UK, it makes 82. Pro-rating the same, it would be somewhere close to 78 ps. Combing this with Figo's weight, it would still be a laggard compared to the I10s and Swifts.

Unless Fords tunes this extensively to extract 80+ full horses with decent torque with an ARAI number of close to 18 kmpl, it wont do volumes for the petrol unit.

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

The Figo/Ka compact sedan, without a doubt, has got to be the most proportionate looking of the sub-4m sedans in the market. In the last picture posted by Enigmatic , the white test mule looks like a proper sedan without any of the awkwardness associated with a sub-4m design limitation.

Ford seem to have at least one (if not two) potential superhits in the pipeline. They can retire the Figo and (Fiesta) Classic twins from the market and position this pair in that space. The sub-4m sedan segment is rapidly becoming one of the most fiercely contested ones in India. The more, the merrier for customers!

Good to see the 1.5 TDCi in them and not the 1.4.

You can say that again. We have a 2015 Fiesta and the MID is showing an average FE of 19.6 KMPL over the last 2 tank fulls and the car is confined to city mostly.

I am keeping it below 2K till the first service and that surely helps. But its easy to get very high FE with the 1.5 TDCi.

I am sure that the test mule is not sub-4m ! This is more like the Ka sedan unveiled for the Brazil market ! Maybe Ford will launch both the sedans? But that doesn't make much sense. So i would guess that the longer sedan would be exported and the sub-4m would be reserved for us.

Clue - the rear overhang is just too much for the spy car, which is not in line with the Figo sedan concept that was shown to us all.

re: Ford Figo-based compact sedan - The Aspire

I was looking forward to the Ka (figo) hatch with the 1.0L eco boost engine!! I previously had a Figo for couple of years and I absolutely loved driving it, the only downer being the slightly underpowered diesel engine. It would have been a proper hot hatch with the Ecoboost and we are yet again let down

Engine options look good. Getting the entire petrol package (engine+transmission) right will keep this one in the race. Even in the looks department, I like what I see so far. Waiting for T-BHP official review.

Off topic: I can only drool over the 1.6 EcoBoost
