Some of the differences that we have figured out based on the pictures that have been circulated are as follows:
  • There may not be a Titanium+ variant or the leather has been given a miss.
  • The maximum airbags, as a result of the aforementioned seems to be 4, considering we did see curtain airbags on the Figo.
  • The armrest at the rear bench has been given a miss.
  • The headrests available on the Aspire have been swapped for neck restraints.
  • The rear seat, however, is of the forward folding (not 60:40) type. This I believe was not available on the Aspire owing to the beam present in the boot for safety purposes.
Others to any more that I am not aware of?

As per their website, The new Figo will have six airbags and possibely Titanium Plus variant too. They havent mentioned anything about 1.5 automatic petrol engine. Iam assuming it could be 1.2 only.

Re: Next-gen Ford Figo unveiled! Details on page 6

I had a related question specifically on hatches with 1.2 l engines qualifying for the excise benefit; hatchback models of almost every make have diesel options with engine capacity exceeding 1.2 l e.g. the mjd 1.3l and the tdci which was earlier 1.4 and now 1.5 l. These obviously do not qualify for the excise benefit and hence taxed extra. How much does this additional taxation contribute to the premium one pays for diesel variants over petrol ones? I know that that diesel engines are inherently more expensive to construct and that also contributes to the higher price tag.

My point here is that if the excise element is not a high contributor, why don't the car makes in India, consider more powerful >1.2 litre petrol options, especially for cars like figo, punto et al where the diesel is clearly the choice for performance? I can understand budget hatches like Wagon R, Santros etc using frugal engines, but they surely are takers for premium hatches with better powered petrol engines? Its clear that when it came to the previous gen Figo, the diesel was the more prudent choice from every angle.

Actually, for diesel engines, the CC cap is at 1500cc and for petrol it is at 1200cc. Hence, a petrol car with 1200cc and a diesel car with 1500cc engine both fall under the lower tax bracket.

What we are paying extra for the diesel engine (close to 1L extra) is only because of engine construction costs, the addition of a turbo and some related components needed to take in the extra weight/torque figures of the diesel

The 1.2L limit is for only Petrol engines. For Diesel engines, this limit is 1.5L.

The excise law allows car under 4m to be taxed at 8% for petrol engines less than 1200 cc and diesel engines under 1500cc. Hence, all those cars will be taxed similarly. The premium we pay, apparently is only for the benefits(?) of a diesel engine.

Since 6 airbags is confirmed, I assume there has to be a Titanium+ variant.
Thanks for pointing that out guys, I stand corrected!

i couldn't find any , except that now its the 1.2 thats likely to come with the AT option !! (just like Brio for Honda , I guess)
The website mentions 6 speed manual transmission, although pics show 5 speeds on the gear knob. Maybe it's a typo or maybe the petrol version gets 5 speed transmission which is shown in pics.

There is also some confusion about adjustable headrests for back seat mentioned on website but not seen in pics.

Anyway, not very long to go now. We'll have the confirmation soon enough.

During the Aspire's launch, the link they provided was not working (It just kept playing the ad in a loop). Hope it works this time around.

Re: Next-gen Ford Figo unveiled! Details on page 6

If the Figo hatch is same as the Aspire except the boot, it's going to make some impact on the market for sure especially in the diesel avatar.

So, the only advantages of the Aspire could be -
1> Bigger boot space
2> Rear arm-rest
3> Rear adjustable headrests but loses on the folding seats.

What's the expectation on pricing with respect to the Aspire?
If the differences are only the few listed above, probably not more than 30-40K lower than the Aspire but I think Ford will omit a few more features in the Aspire and price it 50-60K less.

Re: Next-gen Ford Figo unveiled! Details on page 6

Hope they launch the 1.5L with the 6-speed DCT, as speculated by a few auto blogs. That would be a perfectly capable warm hatch, that strikes a balance between power, driving dynamics & reliability.

P.S. Plonking in a 1.5L EcoBoost somewhere down the line would make it the perfect hot hatch.
