re: Scoop: Updated Tata Safari Storme in the offing? EDIT: Now launched

I wish they bring in a refreshed model soon, so that i can get a handsome discount on the outgoing model

I am happy with the current EX. I dont need a 3rd row and i can put in my own ICE. Current power and torque are more than adequate i feel. Higher engine numbers may result in lower kmpl.

Thanks Aditya for the update on Safari Storme

Subdued and toned down looks of present Safari Storme was the prime reason for going against it while buying my SUV last year. Otherwise, I loved every bit of it.

I wish the changes are more radical than mere cosmetic but picture says otherwise. Looks like its more to do with Engine & Interiors.

The truck looks a lot better without the chrome.

Is the paint glossy or matt?

Have a look at rear of Storme in the Army colour !

No flashy chrome strip + No grayish panel above = No multiple shades at the rear. Plain, simple and elegant!

Would prefer it any day with the existing available shades on Storme !

This doesn't look like a car just being tested in Army colors. It is more like a car being readied for Army service. Looking at the marked area, it shows the special lights which are user in army cars/trucks and are specifically purposed for war/emergency scenarios where regular tail lights cannot be used.

Maybe they just want to be noticed?

These are called Convoy lights, just enough to be seen by the driver of the vehicle behind it at night.

Similar white lights are in the front (red circled in the photo).

As I keep mentioning, Indian army needs to buy around 30,000 vehicles and hence both Storme and Scorpio are being tested with changes as per the requirements and specifications of the Indian army.

Posting another photo of Storme in OTR.

I wonder how would an AMT work in the storme?

Is it a little too wishful to think on those lines?

I would love to pick up an AMT Storme EX for say about 13 lacs on road pune as the EX costs about 12.6 lacs OTR.

Rumour !

New Safari Dicor?

As per this article on motorbash, Tata is working on a new updated version of Safari. Yes it’s the old Safari not the Safari Storme. It could be true since Tata continues to offer Safari Dicor, even after the launch of Storme.

Quote:
In a candid chat with one dealer, we were told that many customers just buy the Safari without taking any test drives, but for the Safari Storme, they decide only after being in one! That, we can attribute to the strong brand ‘Safari’ once was and in fact, it possibly is the strongest brand Tata has ever produced.
Why not ?
  • Plonk the 150PS VARICOR and retain the exterior as it is, with a possible addition of a projector headlamp, may be.
  • Don’t add any more electronics. Better the fit and finish a bit and just offer one variant – in 4x4 and place it below Storme LX.

All this and price below Storme Lx is not possible IMO and to add to that who will buy the Storme after that

Don't you think it is about time that all these antediluvian vehicles were retired forever and some of the learning and knowledge transfer from LR/Jag is applied to us poor hungry starved Indian car buyers?

Resurrecting or reenergising old platforms and old technology like this bodes no good. The market has moved on long since!
