Hope they make tweaks to the outer shell to regain some of the lost charm.
I wonder why does it take eons just to add airbags and a music system and why do they need Land Rover engineers to do that? It's just pure lethargy on TML's part which is costing them the market space.

IMHO , it's the vehicle size playing spoilsport for the urban customers. Urban commuters prefer a compact suv that can be parked easily. A decade ago there were no choices but things are different now.

There will still be safari fans that will purchase with a decision taken with the heart, but the average customer will think otherwise.

Is the old Safari Dicor still available in 4x4? There is no mention of it in the website.

No. It is only available in LX and EX trim. 4X4 was only available in GX and VX trim which were discontinued when Storme was launched.

2014 Tata Safari Storme Facelift Coming Soon

Quote:
Tata Motors, is working on a minor facelift of its flagship SUV - the Safari Storme. In fact, the company has started testing the vehicle, as it has been spotted testing several times.
Changes to be expected:
  • Updated front bumper

  • New honeycomb grille

  • New infotainment system

  • Front-facing third row seat

  • A powerful version of the 2.2-litre VARICOR turbo diesel engine

  • A six-speed manual gearbox
.
The similar engine also powers the updated Aria crossover. Producing 148bhp and 320Nm

If rumours are to be believed, Tata might reduce the vehicle's price slightly. The existing model is priced between Rs. 9.93 lakh - Rs. 13.70 lakh.

Can't say if it looks better than the current one, but definitely looks good. Some observations from the pics - grills are changed (closer to land rover now and hence loses some more of the "safari" character), alloys, the chrome on the ORVM and the front fog lamps are gone. I hope it's not the final production version!

I don't like the revised grill + bumper, the original one looked a lot classier. I really hope this isn't the final version.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

I do hope they've worked on the dashboard (specifically a better integrated ICE, preferably with steering mounted controls). If 'cruise control' is thrown in as well, it could actually become a true long distance rockstar IMHO!

Could easily be a lower trim like the lx. fogs, chrome and alloys come in vx.
All I see is a different grill, not even the bumper. Call it magic, i suddenly love my old grill.
Side steps are also missing in the test mule.

. Looks like thing in Tata are changing and they are reacting to failures/competition much earlier than usual (i.e. 2 years as opposed to 4 years). They killed the Aria by sitting on their butt and almost did that tot he storme. The changes rumoured will make the Safari Storme a worthy contender provided, they don't try to reach for the stars with price as they are did with Aria originally.

The biggest change that I see, that would be welcomed is front facing 3rd row seats. This would mean, last two passengers get access to "seat belts" and are not tossed around. Also, getting in and out would be less cumbersome.

I was also among the many who wished the Storme had front facing 3rd row but since then I feel the Storme is better off with side facing ones given the curved rear end design. Am sure everyone will start abusing Tata motors on how "impractical" the 3rd row is and how much less headroom/legroom there is and would start comparing it with the likes of Ertiga/Mobilio etc. Also not sure how getting in/out becomes easier with a front facing 3rd row ? I feel it would be more difficult. One would have to climb up the running board, move the 2nd row forward and then squeeze in.

I hope this not another article just based on “rumors” and speculations in the auto world.

If the front grill overall dimensions remain same[ see this link], it would do the purpose with minimal hassle for the manufacturer. A car priced at around 15 L, a decent HU is a “must”. Since the 3rd row in the current avatar isn't really usable, a front facing bench will make the vehicle more practical and another reason to buy.

The current Storme owners do seem to find the ownerships more or less hassle free, at least on T-BHP. If this update gets launched at about the current pricing, it will definitely do some good numbers. Personally I [a fully satisfied Scorpio owner] too would consider one.

Re: Tata Safari Storme : Official Review

I wish they had retained the original grille but extended it upwards to hide the (in my opinion - hideous looking) chrome strip.
