Re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016!

Overdrive confirms updated engines and increased power for the Kite5 sedan, and a more powerful 1.5L diesel option at a later stage.

Quote:
The engine options that will be offered in the Tata Kite5 include the 1.2L Revotron petrol and Revotorq diesel motor. While these units put out 85PS/114Nm and 70PS/140Nm respectively, expect the Kite5 to get increased power as sources tell us that the engines will be updated. One of these updates include a larger turbocharger.

These engines will be paired to the same 5-speed manual transmission. Like the hatch, the Tata Kite5 too will get two driving modes namely City and Eco.

The other engine option which is expected to debut at a later stage in the Tata Kite5 is a brand new 1.5-litre diesel motor. The same that is expected to power the upcoming Tata Nexon compact SUV.

Re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016!

Where will this really compete? The Zest is already competing with the other compact sedans. This looks ugly from the pictures, something like a half baked product. Tata has just started tasting some success with the Tiago. I hope they don't dilute this advantage by launching cars without any USP.

This is the replacement to the Indigo CS, and will thus ply in a segment below the Zest.

Right now, no other sedan is in this segment, and the only proper competitors lined up against it are the Mahindra KUV100 and the yet-to-be-launched Maruti-Suzuki Ignis. Hence, it has a great chance to grab a sizeable chunk of the market too.

On the contrary, I think that the Kite5 looks quite elegant and proportionate from all angles, specially the rear. The swooping down, notchback-ish roofline tapering into the boot area is splendidly executed. I dare say that the Kite5 is a much proportionate design than the Zest. The Auto Expo 2016 pictures (posted earlier in this thread) are a testament to this.

If my birdies and all the insider info floating around are to be believed, the Kite5 will come with quite a few USPs of it's own as well. A peppier diesel option, some segment-first features, and an unbeatable price. Just the sort of stuff which caters well to the masses.

Let's hope it delivers. For the customers and for the company. God knows Tata needs it, big time.

Re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016!

Two months to go for the release. If they price it too aggressively it might eat some sales out of the tiago. However, it is too early to comment on Tiago's success. Remember KUV100? It sinked into oblivion after the initial success.

After VW Ameo shook the segment with its pricing, it is now Tata's turn to reveal the ace up their sleeve.

One can attribute the ugliness to the camouflage sticker work. It looks elegant from some angles in plain clothes.

Well some reliable source told me that Indigo CS will be there for some more time. As tata is busy in making little modification on the boot of the Indigo CS.

Yes, Tata is going a bit slow but for sure in the right direction. As I know, many people are waiting for Kite sedan.
By the way, congrats on your Baleno! I'm sure you would have waited a long time for it as well!
Enjoy your drives mate. Drive safe, it's just 860 kgs!

A fully camouflaged Kite 5 doing the rounds in Coimbatore. Was going opposite me, so no pictures. Probably to Jayem Auto which works closely with Tata and Mahindra.

As per my source Kite 5 sedan is Tata's next big launch, most probably in September. Their target is around 5K per month.

Re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016!

A bit

Does the impending launch of kite 5 sound like a death knell for zest ?

Looking at the great response (relatively) for Tiago, which has done all but killed the bolt, will it be safe to assume the same in case of zest as well?

The bolt & zest are distant from being six feet under. Thanks to Uber for giving a ventilator support to Bolt.

IMHO, the kite 5 should easily under cut the zest's price by at least a lakh being 3-pot(both petrol & diesel).
However with the GST, TML might bid a good bye to zest as compact sedans might pave their way to their lengthier siblings.

Re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016!

Motor Trend confirms that Tata Motors is going to launch the Kite5 sedan in October 2016.

Quote:
Now the production version will hit the roads during the festive season with extremely aggressive pricing. It will be priced lower than the Zest and is expected to be the cheapest compact sedan and provide superb value for money much like its hatchback sibling.

It will have subtle differences over the Tiago hatch with more features and different interior colour plus a touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of engines, the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engine is expected to be carried over but will be updated with more power. It will have the two driving modes and will not have a Sport mode.

I called up Tata Motors (Bhavna Motors, Ghorbunder Road, Thane) to get more info.
As per dealers, Hexa is getting launched in October 2016 & Kite only in early 2017.
I hope they do launch it with a bigger heart to make the wait worth-wile!

The launch dates seem credible since we have seen plenty of Hexa test cars but very few Kite 5 test cars.

I hope that Tata realise that their products need to be sound, reliable and match customer expectations that are set my advertising, FROM DAY ONE. The Tiago looks promising but the mixed reviews on the petrol engine are not encouraging.

Tata have taken a huge gamble by launching totally new cars and engines. I really hope that it works out well. I'm not nationalistic and I have no problem buying any brand of car, but I have to admit that choosing to buy an Indian car on merits alone would make me a prouder car owner.
