Thanks for the info. I was looking at similar figures of about 80-100k premium for the Nexon. Going by the pricing of AT cars with respect to their MT counterparts, I guess that premium is justified? Also, if I'm not wrong then the Ecosport and Aspire also sport "true" AT's instead of an AMT. And from what I have heard, the Ecosport AT is quite a capable car. Since the Nexon is pitted against the likes of the Ecosport, I guess a true AT in it would make sense.

Like I said before, I'm relatively new to automatics, hence corrections are welcome

Ecosport AT is petrol only. Whereas, Nexon will come with diesel + AMT, hopefully. If that happens, Nexon will have an edge over Ecosport. The only diesel AT mini-SUV right now is Creta AT but is very pricey for what it offers. And Brezza AMT will probably come after 3/4 years when Brezza will be available off the shelf and no one will be interested in it any more.

Speaking of Nexon, Tata should bring this one on a.s.a.p. Mini-SUV is the hottest segment right now and Tatas have zero presence here.

Yes, entirely justified. With the Creta Automatic selling in decent numbers (apparently) it would serve Tata well to offer a normal automatic sourced from a specialist, because the lower expected starting price of the Nexon should still allow them to undercut the Creta.

Will help them ease into the automatic space with a relatively successful offering before spreading the investment out to other models like the next gen Storme.

IMO - TATA has to give the cosmetic bits (Dual tone roof, alloy wheels, ceramic inserts etc) standard on every version of the Nexon, more like what Hyundai did with the i20 Active, or Honda with the BRV.

Take out the alloy wheels and the dual tone roof design - you are left with nothing but a regular hatchback design - much like the Bolt to a common man, although there are obvious design differences. These two elements give it that crossover look IMO, and it would be a blunder it equip only top end variants with these features.

As per the export data:

It is likely to have the 1.5L CRAIL Engine

+ Mid variant is likely to have 3.5 inch infotainment display

+ Tata will term it as CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle)

That way a landrover Evoque is nothing but a largish hatchback, especially when not dual tone. Also an Ecosport is a small hatch if we remove the roof rails and the raised bonnet. Truly these raised hatchback are creating a big confusion

What would be the purpose of exporting infotainment units separately? Any insights?

In short, on two occasions you have shared the same posts!

and may I say, shared same anti-Tata bias?

Edit: When I saw the second post had the feeling that I had read it somewhere and had to point it out.

In 2014, Following the announcement of a strategic multi-year relationship to develop and supply branded audio and infotainment solutions for TATA Motors, Harman International established a R&D facility in Pimpri, approximately 5 kms away from Tata's plant. Dighi port is used to export the components developed in this auto cluster.

Futhermore, Bill of lading reveals that it was shipped by Harman International (India) to Harman's production plant in Suzhou, China. A zauba search confirms the destination country as China.

To conclude, we can assume that post R&D, the said prototype was sent for production purposes to China by Harman International India. Therefore it does not get bundled with test purpose prototype car.

Three months and 150+ posts apart, because I thought it was relevant to the conversation I replied to.

Anti - TATA bias? Yes, if you only single out negativity and take offence at it.

However, go back a few pages and you'll also see how I'm looking forward to the Nexon after my short experience with the genuinely impressive Tiago. If it is as impressive as it seems to be, might be my next car as well.

Now, coming back to the post. Don't take offence dude. Peace. I'm neither ridiculing TATA nor attacking the design (in this post). All I'm saying is that they have to make design elements standard across the range, like Hyundai did with the i20 Active. And Honda did with the BRV. Because without these elements, it feels like a hatchback and nothing more. It's a suggestion at this point, as we are not yet sure of the final design and specs.

That said, I'm not a big fan of the design, especially the rear. But I'm willing to overlook it for my purchase if TATA delivers that quality interior (Tiago was very good) for their usual VFM pricing.

PS- If you still feel it's out of context, and a big shame to discuss a potential point of improvement about TATA twice, I suggest you report the post.

None taken. Just that I did not see any rationale restating the same thing. I would rather wait to see the final product before giving a judgement for what it is or is not.
Peace and cheers!

There are several other folks restating the same things albeit positive views on the product. Why get so touchy when someone posts something else? I see this on Fiat threads Tata threads and many others. If someone doesn't like a certain aspect, let them share their view if you can contest it, then by all means do so. However pointing out that its been posted and then going on to say "anti-tata" seems a lot more unnecessary to me (strictly my opinion).

PS: I personally love the design of the Nexon. Frankly if they get the motors right then I'm even sold on it but will still wait a year after its launch because I have my own apprehensions about Tata's QC on initial batches of nearly every vehicle sold. There. That's my only "anti-tata" statement. Hope I don't get flamed for that

Because it's a prototype. There was a post by a bhp'ian where he explained why prototypes are so much more expensive and hence the value displayed in Zauba.
