re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

I'd be very pleasantly surprised if they price it any less than 23+. They have tasted sweet money with the Creta. Santa Fe is 30+. Lot of place to play around in between.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Hyundai Tuscon is rumoured To Get 2.0-L Petrol Engine; No 1.6-L Diesel.

Quote:
it is now confirmed that the SUV will get a petrol option as well. The engine in question is none other than the 2.0-litre engine that made its India debut in the new Elantra. In the saloon, it develops 152PS of power and 192Nm of torque, and is available with the option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic. The engine-gearbox combos will be carried over to the Tucson. Sources also hinted at the possibility of a possible uptune for the engine, along with a rejig of the gear ratios to suit the SUV.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Hyundai to launch premium SUV Tucson in October, testing continues.

The Tucson borrows some design cues from the Santa Fe and helps to maintain the SUV family look. The rear gets LED taillamps and skid plate with a slot for twin exhaust pipes.

Engine options likely to have both petrol and diesel options.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

From the same Autocar India article:

Hyundai aims to achieve 50 percent localisation, with prices to likely start at around Rs 17 lakh for the base petrol going up to Rs 22 lakh for the top-spec diesel. This price range would allow it to undercut its long-time rival, the Honda CR-V. Company insiders think it will be way more successful than Hyundai's large sedans, like the Sonata. This won't be the first time the Tucson has made it to India; the car manufacturer sold the original one briefly in 2005 at a price of Rs 14-15 lakh.

Just like they launched Elantra at 13L, but to get the real features you need to buy the 16-17L variant, in the same way they might give the base version of Tucson at 17L, but it will be worthless to buy as compared to the XUV at the same price point, it will appear to be highly under equipped. You will definitely need to spend 20L+ Ex showroom to get the variant which will have the minimum acceptable features.

Motoroids claims that Tucson is going to be launched with only a manual transmission and adds that the auto will follow later. Is it true?

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

Spotted testing on the roads of Pune by an Overdrive reader.

Quote:
The Hyundai Tucson will be launched with an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 182PS/400Nm.

almost all the Tucsons spotted testing have been seen with a 6-speed manual transmission. A source says that there is likely a dual-clutch transmission in the future. However, internationally it is available only with a new 1.7-litre diesel engine. It remains to be seen if Hyundai sticks with the 6-speed torque convertor or goes all the way with the new engine-transmission combo. A 1.4-litre turbo petrol is also expected to be a part of the mix.

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

The new Tucson looks like a lovely choice to fill the gap between the Creta and the Santa Fe. I hope the lower variants are priced closer to the Creta's top variants, and the higher variants take the Honda CR-V head-on!

Hormazd Sorabjee of Autocar India test drove the Tucson 2.0 CRDi in its 136 PS state of tune in the UK. Overdrive reports that we will get the 185 PS version. I hope Overdrive is correct!

This 2.0 litre CRDi unit belongs to the all-aluminium R engine family (and not the U2 family as Hyundai's smaller CRDi motors). Here are its specifications from the UK website:

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched-screenshot_20160911134128.jpg

We may or may not get the 4WD version here.

If Hyundai choose to mate an automatic to this engine in India, then the choice is likely to be a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

I hope the fools at Hyundai don't make a mess of the feature spread across variants as they did with the new Elantra, or with the pricing as they did with the i20 1.4 AT.

I have been an avid fan of the Topgear UK TV show and I am sure there would be many more here. Cars like these, softroaders with 5 seats with a torqy diesel are good for caravaners in that part of Europe. What good do they serve us? Well, first, their ground clearance is more, good for our roads filled with potholes. Second, commanding driving position as you sit taller than in their sedan siblings. Third, India just loves diesels, period. I know people in tier 2 and 3 cities who just won't buy a petrol, however less their running be. Now, considering it provides similar levels of quality, comfort and features as the Elantra, will I go for the Tucson at 3-4 Lacs more? Not at all mates. Are there too many like me? I don't think so. If Hyundai prices it sensibly, they have got a sales winner in hand. Taking CBU route to start with is not going to serve their cause.
Btw, if I had to buy a ₹20L car and it had to be a tall one, it would only be so because I would need a 7 seater so that my family could travel together and hence I would wait for the Hexa. I think if you need a car for personal use, daily office runs and those weekend trips, Elantra is more VFM any given day, and if running is not that much, get that 1.6L petrol one.

I think you've nailed it, aviraj. Hyundai has been happily riding the "SUV" gravy-train! Banking on the aspirational value of its products in the segment & happy in the knowledge that its target audience doesn't give a hoot what an SUV actually does. So long as the tag is there! - their Creta dropped the pretense altogether & it hasn't bothered with even the basic AWD feature! Let's see if the new Tucson (unlike the earlier one, which did have the AWD option) continues with the good work. As you mentioned, I expect their bean-counters to finely calibrate the pricing (here in India, not in the US! - where they are still middle-rung players & their equivalent prices are fabulously lower) to see just what they can get away with!

The same 2 test mules have been caught on camera by an IAB reader in Maharashtra.

The brake lights on the blue Tucson can be seen in action.

Hyundai officials have confirmed that cars will start arriving in Hyundai showrooms during the festive season ahead.

185 PS & 400 Nm are impressive figures for such a vehicle, They should seriously consider 4WD version for India

re: The 2016 Hyundai Tucson. EDIT: Launched

The 2016 Tucson's GC is only 162.5 mm (6.4 inches)! When even the Creta has 190 mm, why on earth Tucson comes with only 162.5mm?

This low GC doesn't provide real advantage over the other sedans in the segment.

I am in a dilemma between the Tucson and the Jetta. This low GC has really put me off.
