I recall an anecdote. A friend of mine said one of his relatives bought an XUV 500 when it was just introduced and on asking what car he bought, he would say, "the new model of Scorpio". Going by that, I imagine people might call it the smaller one and bigger one

I remember going to one of the malls here in Chennai in 2012 and seeing "Cars and XUVs" written on the car parking

I think it will do more of a good than bad for XUV300 sales. XUV is already a well know and aspirational product/brand name and Mahindra can certainly capitalize on that. They can save a lot of effort on product name /position introduction into customer's mind. XUV300 - Chota brother of XUV500.

Does this mean the rear seats will slide forward?

Makes a lot of sense, as the wheel base is very large (inherited from Tivoli), which means a lot of cabin space and legroom. The boot space will be limited as the length of Tivoli has been cut by 20cms without reducing wheelbase.

Sliding rear seats will ensure that the boot space can be expanded whenever required by compromising the (generous) rear legroom.

If this is the case, then I guess it will be the first 5 seater in india with sliding rear seats?

It will most likely benefit xuv 300, but has the potential to hurt xuv 500.

Mahindra is taking an unwanted risk, i think.

No, Mahindra is not taking any risk as per my view. Not everyone wants a space saver sub 4 m cross over. Target audience of XUV500 is entirely different and would not intersect with that of its younger sibling.

I just so wished the rear end execution was done bit more properly with that overdone rear wheel arches. A rear 3 quarter view is what I am talking about.

re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Would buying the XUV500 Mahindra vehicle be more worth than the Tata Nexon?

I have been a Tata user till date and plan to upgrade from the Indica to a new Compact SUV and so far I was thinking about Nexon but suddenly the launch of XUV300 has diverted my attention.

Tata Indica so far has been a real bad vehicle and has given me a lot of trouble, and neither did I find the Tata service promising here in Pune city.

Would shifting over to Mahindra give me a peace of mind with the new XUV300 as far as their "service" is concerned?

Wondering?

You haven't mentioned which generation Indica you had. I have had the 2006 Turbo DLG and the Marina and both ran trouble-free (except one timing belt failure which was purely the mechanic's fault) till I sold them to pick up the Vista 7 years ago.

The A.S.S is always a hit or miss. Had great experience with independent authorized service centers (no sales) and now take it to a FNG in my neighbourhood.

I would classify both Mahindra and Tata at par when it comes to service, probably Tata to be a little better of late, based on reviews here on the forum (Nexon and Hexa owners).

My suggestion would be to wait for the XUV300 and test drive both (Nexon) back to back and come to a conclusion. It would be hard to go wrong on either. Personal preferences (riding position, visibility, touch and feel) should matter more.

re: The Mahindra XUV300, aka Ssangyong Tivoli. Edit: Launched @ 7.9 lakhs

Bumper chopping to make it under 4 meter length ruined the look especially rear. This car deserves proper bumpers.
This is going to be successful for sure. We can expect some more discounts on Nexon, Ecosport, Duster, Brezza, and WRV after this launch.

To me this is not a Mahindra but a Ssangyong with few cosmetic changes. I am pretty sure that this car will be as reliable and well made as a Hyundai car.

XUV 3OO is a RWD? It's clearly an AWD or RWD in the ad shot with Gaurav Gill -

A joy to read the above lines. But I don't think so.

The Tivoli is FWD with optional AWD(FWD biased)

Guess it's just handbrake induced or the tyres kicking up dust.

Or maybe an AWD just for the shoot (and later launch)

But looking at the segment and our market, why bother.

EDIT : Looks like the Tivoli AWD has a 'LOCK' mode too. Not bad

XUV300 is sub 4m but thats because its front and rear bumpers were modified. So would it make sense to compare it with Creta based on wheelbase and cabin space if only bumpers were modified?

Somehow looking at it gives me a feeling that it resembles Brezza somewhat.

I just searched on YouTube for Brezza Drift and got this video. This is somewhat similar to the XUV3OO one. No comments on anything regarding the video shoot, just uploading a screenshot to show that the rear wheels are also spinning during drift. So maybe, a FWD can mimick a RWD to naked eye during such drives. I also hope like many enthusiasts that we should get an AWD C-SUV. Keeping fingers crossed.

IMO, it is FWD only with TCS. RWD would be just in our wishlist, I guess.

Please observe the video of Mr. Gaurav Gill around 00:40, he had used handbrake. As mentioned by another BHPian, it could be the trick with the handbrake only. Also, the way front wheels were spinning, my guess would be FWD.

Kindly give your views on this.

Thanks and cheers!

Behind the scene videos of the XUV300. Powerdrift team was behind this! Good work I must say.
