If I am a cab owner, I will not take my car to a dealership. That is not a economical way of maintenance unless the issue is too complicated to be fixed by a non-dealer. Having said that how many cab owners take their cars to dealerships?

I say this based on first-hand experience, being a Safari owner.

I've seen plenty of cabs at the Tata dealer service station and thinking about it, I understand why a cabbie might choose the authorised place over a small local mechanic. The reasons, I think, are turn around time and better reliability - a cabbie who needs to repay the loan on his car and make a decent living needs to ensure that his cab's downtime is minimal. An authorised service centre will have the tools, training and parts to ensure the fastest possible turn around. A lot of cabbies are intelligent enough to understand the long-term benefits of running a cab in good condition: higher income from more time on the road, fewer breakdowns and higher resale value.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Tata Motors beat off the likes of Honda Cars India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor & a resurgent Renault India to finish at Number 4 in the list of top 10 passenger car sellers for 2016 (calendar year).

However, Renault India scored the biggest Y-O-Y (Year on Year) growth at a whopping 146%, while Honda Cars India was the biggest Y-O-Y loser, with a drop in overall sales numbers by 23%.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

According to Tata Motors' managing director Gunter Butschek, launching the Hexa crossover SUV yesterday was just the beginning, and that they have lined up a range of SUVs as future launches.

Quote:
There is a range of SUVs that company has lined up for launch: from the Nexon to take on compact soft roaders like the Ford EcoSport and Maurti Vitara Brezza to plush and performance vehicle like a new Safari Storme.

“There is much more in the UV segment for us, there is much more you can expect from Tata Motors in the latter half of this year. This is our return in the utility vehicle segment,” he said. “We understand that customer segments have changed and they are seeking more utility lifestyle products and that is what we intend to offer in the future.”

According to several people in the know, Tata Motors will be moving towards two modular vehicle architectures in the future. These will give it the flexibility make several models on the same platform. The X4 architecture will form the basis of future cars and small compact UVs. There is also a separate utility vehicle architecture that has been conceived. It is likely to replace the Safari Storm and spawn out a number of new utility vehicles in the premium segment.

In the second half of 2017, the company will be launching the Nexon sub-four-metre SUV. There is a premium SUV planned on a Land Rover platform, codenamed Q5, which may hit the market in 2018.

Some more details on the Q5 premium SUV from the Tata stable filter in.

Quote:
The other is a top-of-the-line luxury SUV that is currently taking shape at design studios in UK, Italy and India.

According to a company source, the premium SUV is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport L550 platform and will follow a similar architecture while integrating Tata’s Impact Design philosophy. The Land Rover team is playing a lead role in the aesthetics for the premium vehicle.

The SUV will be positioned above the Safari and slot into a space below the SUVs sold by global auto manufacturers like Toyota, General Motors and Ford. “It will be the most premium vehicle yet to carry the Tata badge,” a company official said.

The premium SUV that is expected to be priced upward of Rs 20 lakh will be powered by a 2 litre diesel engine.

Tata Motors plans Nexa-like dealerships for premium push.

The maker of light-on-pocket models like Tiago, Indica and Nano Tata Motors is working on a few premium products such as a premium hatchback, premium sports utility vehicle and an executive sedan even as it aims to be number three in the market by 2019.

Fancy showrooms won't help Tata improve its image amongst customers. This is like trying to run before being able to walk. Tata should first be aiming at matching Maruti or Hyundai in terms of customer experience.

Tata as a brand is at stake and it's high time that TML get their house in order and get their dealers in control to prevent them from going rogue.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

2017 might prove to be a turnaround year for Tata Motors, as it prepares to drive in several new launches in it's quest to replace Mahindra & Mahindra from the number 3 spot in overall sales in India.

Two of those are all set to be rolled out very soon - the Tiago AMT and the Kite5 sedan.

The compact SUV challenger from the Tata stable, the Nexon, is expected to come before the festive season.

Quote:
Tata Motors is readying a twin of its Tiago hatchback, but with an extended boot, for a March launch to take on Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming new-generation Dzire and a facelifted version of Hyundai Motor’s Xcent.

Tata Motors has already started production of the Kite 5, the sedan version of the Tiago, last month. It has mandated vendors with production schedule of 3,000-4,000 units a month, said people in the know.

Though the launch was planned earlier, the company recalibrated the timing to ensure enough capacity for the Tiago. Still, the Kite 5 will be launched before the segment leaders hit the market with new products, so that it can have a higher mindshare, said one of them.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Tata's in the near future will consolidate from six platforms to two; will have multiple engines and body styles.

Quote:
The first of these is called AMP (Advanced Modular Platform). Similar in concept to VW’s MQB, it is made up of 15 individual modules that can be put together to form a complete car. The size is variable too. The floor pan, for example, can be scaled for length, width, track and wheelbase (track and wheelbase each variable by more than 100mm). The first car off this next-generation platform is likely to be in showrooms by 2018 and Tata CEO Guenter Butschek says there are likely to be up to eight individual models produced on this platform.

Re: Tata Motors aims for a top 3 spot in PV sales!

Wish 2017 to be marked as Tata's comeback year. Looking forward to the positive changes from Tata , quite promising
Also waiting for the launch of Nexon and speculated premium SUV, making Tata a brand with desirability.
