https://practicalmotoring.com.au/car...manual-review/

This one certainly seems like one of rare pretty down to earth candid reviews, worth a read.

What is noteworthy is the "PERFORMANCE, RIDE AND HANDLING" section and quotes like

Quote:
On road: The Fortuner can move along nicely enough, but it’s no sporting SUV. The engine is not particularly powerful, and there’s no point taking it beyond 3500rpm; instead, change early and let the torquey motor do its work, which it does in a nicely unhurried manner.

The ride isn’t great for a coil-sprung rear end, and it reminded me of some of the better leaf-sprung utes, with a slightly fiddly rear end that’s a fair way off plush, even with a bit of a load. There’s more bump steer than there should be in a wagon of this nature, and the steering is tight but a little indistinct. At cruise the rather tall sixth gear means life is relaxed and quiet, and the vehicle will pull steadily but slowly up inclines in top gear. At 100km/h the engine sits happily on 1500rpm and will pull from there without any drama — that’s at the start of the max torque rev range. At 110km/h you’re looking at a cruisy 1700rpm.

Pick up the pace and the Fortuner reluctantly responds, able to hustle along country roads with as much speed as anyone would ever need. Push further and there are no vices, just a very progressive tendency to understeer as a gentle indicator the Fortuner is not best pleased.

There’s an ECO mode. This is completely pointless and should be labelled Placebo Mode because all it does is deaden the throttle and fiddle with the aircon, and you’d just use more of both to compensate anyway. The car will also pop up an Eco icon on the dash when you’re just cruising in a highish gear, just in case you wanted to know you weren’t using much fuel and couldn’t work it out for yourself. That feature can be turned off.

The Power Mode button doesn’t give you any extra power, it just sharpens the throttle response. You can achieve the same effect by pressing the pedal quicker, but some drivers may like the feel.
What they are reviewing there is also Base GX variant unlike India which doesn't have such variants. In some shots looks like an abnormally humongous body, cockpit like upper glassy portion with large panel body below, seems to be missing its shoes inconspicuously due to black steel rims.

However, this surely looks like a bull ready to roll for a purpose...

Loved this Youtube video. The Fortuner climbs up & down a near vertical man-made obstacle. I am thoroughly impressed with both the driver and the machine.

Collated the latest prices of Fortuner & Endeavour for everyone's reference.

The prices shown below are OTR Bangalore.

The price difference of top end variants arent too much.

The difference is higher when entry grades of Endy is considered, however Fortuner doesnt have an entry grade as such (considering the fact that there are minimal feature differences between grades), its only the power train difference.

Re: Scoop! Next-gen Toyota Fortuner spotted. EDIT: Preview on page 14

Last weekend paid a visit to DSK Toyota dealer in Pune and returned completely disappointed because:

1. Forget TD, there was no demo car to check out.

2. Sales executive had no clue whatsoever on when the demo car will be available and had no clue about probable delivery dates. I made him aware that some are being already delivered in other cities. To this he said, it is only in metro cities. I told him it was some tier-2 city in MP, he has no answer and repeats that they have no info from Toyota.

3. He told me that booking is on hold as they have taken 30-35 bookings with no visibility about deliveries.

4. All he had on offer was a brochure and price list with no enthusiasm to talk about the car itself (probably because no one asks him and just books it).

5. Two days later I get a call as a follow up. I requested the guy on line that I would call back in an hour. To this, he says, "Sir are you really interested"?

Time to check other dealers and see if they are any different or is this becoming the norm at Toyota sales.

Toyota To Increase Prices Of Its Model Range By Upto 3 Per Cent

In a move to tackle the increasing manufacturing cost of vehicles and constant upward movement of foreign exchange rates, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that it will increase prices of its entire product portfolio by up to 3 per cent from January, 2017. A similar price hike was also announced in December, 2015.

Expressing his views on the price hike, N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, "There has been an increase in prices of raw material commodities like steel, aluminum, copper and rubber over a period of the last six months and this puts a lot of pressure on us as all this has been leading to a higher input cost on our end. Another factor leading to higher input cost in our case is the appreciation of yen in the international market which has increased the cost of parts that we import from Japan."

Toyota has also announced a new 'Remember December' campaign which will offer benefits such as 100 per cent financing on the on-road prices of the cars and attractive EMI options such as 'Buy now, pay in March, 2017' and EMIs as low as ₹ 22,999 on particular variants of Innova Crysta.

Expressing concerns on a higher foreign exchange rate, N.Raja added:

"We do a periodic review of the prices of our products basis the above factors and take necessary actions. We have been absorbing all the additional costs till now thereby protecting our customers from the price increase. However, owing to continued pressure of high costs and foreign exchange rates remaining at high levels of above Rs. 68 for every USD, we had to increase the cost of our products"

The company reported a growth of over 10 per cent in the domestic sales last month. Toyota has managed to sell over 50,000 units of its Innova Crysta and it also claims that the Fortuner has received over 6,200 booking since its launch. We do expect other car manufacturers also to increase its car prices with the start of new calendar year.

This means the OTR price of Fortuner 4x4 AT will go up by almost 1.2 Lakhs.

I think it will be wise to pick up the 2016 car and register it in 2017.

This gives me a mild shock down the spine and now my torture to the dealer where I have booked the T-Fort will be on a rise. The dealer has been tossing me for last 10 days saying my car will arrive today, tomorrow, 3 days, next week and so on, but will take head on with them tomorrow morning.

On other hand, enjoy the video of the off-road boot camp of the new Fortuner by Autocar India.

I think I will push my dealer for a 2016 car. I intend to keep the car for 10 years and I certainly can use the 1.2 Lakhs to good use.

With the sad demise of our CM, J Jayalalitha, I'm worried there may not be much time as a 7 day mourning has been announced.

Update

Spoke to my SA now. The car has been alloted to me. I will get the Engine number and Chassis Number tomorrow. According to him, the car is yet to arrive. I'm wondering how this would have been possible since I wanted a 2017 manufactured car

Anyways, all things happen for good. I will go to the Showroom tomorrow and take things forward.

I'm excited...

Dr. Tejas - You are super famous in the auto world. It is nice to see how your passion for automobiles has made you one of the most sought out person in the "off-roading" world.

The boot camps were impeccably organised and managed extremely well. Thanks to you, I'm getting the 4x4 AT instead of a 4x2.

Proud to be able to interact with you on this wonderful Team-BHP forum.

That's great news! Congratulations. May be your SA wants to save your money with the Jan price hike and hence allotted the car right away. Do post some pics of your car once you get to see it. On other hand make sure a thorough PDI is conducted, as it feels surprising to see such quick allotments and hope we don't get ended in a trap. I am eagerly waiting for my allotment details yet. Fingers crossed.

Thank you Venku.

I will talk to the SA and his senior, Mr. Hari, tomorrow morning. Incidentally, when I talked about booking the car in November and taking delivery of a 2017 manufactured car in Jan 2017, Mr. Hari mentioned that there will be a price increase from 1st Jan 2017. Had i listened to him, I would have had the ownership report on Team-BHP by now

Anyways, I had only two pre-conditions while booking the car.
- I will do the PDI in theIr stock yard before I approve the car for registration
- My car should never enter the showroom and should not be used as a display car.

I need to work on the following now
- Partial loan (already approved, just need to get it processed)
- Insurance. Venku - Did you get the insurance from outside?
- Special Number.
- TGA

So your SA was well informed, anyways everything happens for good and we are happy that we will receive the car sooner, and after-all it does make very little difference to get a 2016 manufactured car if we intend to use it for the next 6 to 7 years.
Yes, do a thorough PDI and you are right, they should not keep your car into the showroom.

I did speak to my SA plus the senior sales head a minute ago, and got to know that my car will be dispatched before 10th and they are planning to deliver on 12th. That's the max timeline provided but they also added, they can deliver it by Saturday too if TKM dispatches the vehicle by tomorrow or day after. I am kind of relieved now.

On the insurance part finally after involving Toyota customer care, dealer agreed to get the insurance done myself which will save me a cool 40k
All I am going to do is go for a long weekend ride so the agonizing wait time passes away quickly
