re: Meeting the Jeep Compass. EDIT: Priced between 14.95 to 20.65 lakhs

Don't think Creta or Duster should be what they are aiming for. The product is much better quality and is a segment higher. I do think they have a winner on their hands. A lot of people want a car for the city and the highway with a good stance and GC. I for one do not want a Fortuner size vehicle because its extremely hard to negotiate it in the city and park. Ofcourse it would make the perfect outstation vehicle mind you.

Up till the Tiguan there was no car which would fit both criterias except the Q3 and X1 in the luxury segment. Though seeing how Tiguain was priced, it really took it out of my contention since I would rather just get the X1. Compass would be a similar size vehicle with a much cheaper price.

As far as the features go, I am sure there are a substantial amount of people like me who don't really care about them much. Have cars loaded with features and I don't use them at all. Would rather have a well built, safe vehicle with cost cutting on the features rather than a well loaded car with cost cutting on airbags and quality of materials.

The only thing Jeep has gotten wrong (until the pricing is announced) is the lack of a diesel auto from day 1 (6 months down the line might be too late for some people). That said I need an automatic since my dad is 60+ so might just go for the petrol automatic.

Is present in the Linea (Worth a mention because it's an FCA product) on the manual transmission variant. Works absolutely fine if you enable it in the proper gear.

Yes, and as you said - it might make it when the diesel auto variant get launched.

These dummy buttons are an eye-sore and a clear indication of missing features. Which variant is this?

True that. Looks cheap.
This looks like a top variant to me with leather seats, leather steering, 4*4 and also 7" screen.

That indeed is the top variant. Those missing buttons point to the lack of cruise control for India. Though there is no doubt about the fact that actual buttons would have looked better, those dummy buttons do add to the symmetry of the steering wheel. The steering would have looked worse without those dummy buttons.

Ford Ecosport, Renault Captur, Nissan Juke etc may fall into Creta category.
I really couldn't agree more. The Creta is nowhere near the Compass, going by the features list, fit, finish, finesse and the engineering as showcased here, various videos on Youtube and of course the ACI report etc. And nor is the Compass actually meant to be taking on the likes of the Creta.
If it is indeed as well engineered as what we are given to believe, then it most definitely deserves a good premium.
Its just that this country's skewed ideas, tend to always equate Size with Price, which ought not to be done ideally.
And I certainly agree that Jeep should not undervalue the Compass by pricing it around the Creta just for Sales Numbers.
Even the Jeep Top Spec at 25 Lacs + Taxes, which will probably end up near about Rs 30-32 Lacs, will find its takers. There is clearly an evolving market for vehicles of this size, type and level of finesse.

Could be a pre-production 'LIMITED' variant. Hopefully the LIMITED (O) will be a fully loaded variant.

Funny to read comments like Jeep shouldn't price the Compass low! Really, what is Jeep competing with , BMW? I thought Jeep is into business of selling SUV's and don't have any news they have ditched that plan and have entered into some sort of posing and is considering selling vehicles in India just to show their manufacturing ability. They better price it competent enough, the Indian consumer can be brutal, the early sales figures of S-cross is evidence for the mighty Maruti's debacle.

The paint quality seems really impressive in the pics, specially on the red and blue shades!

Safety feature list sounds good too -

Standard ESC, HSA, dual airbags, all wheel discs, standard all season tyres and traction control.

Words like 'business professionals, 'executives', 'trendsetters' etc. in the target audience don't bode well from a pricing standpoint. You don't associate such words with a Hyundai Creta. This is how the Octavia, Tiguan and Superb get positioned. Pricing can be expected close to exec sedans such as Superb.

What they don't seem to be stating is that they are just focusing on families who earn more than INR 50 lakhs per annum and are willing to spend on parties and travel. I am just short of sticking my one limb out to say this will be priced upwards of 20 lakhs for sure.

That being the case, they should be happy selling 200-250 units per month, with exports helping them on the ROI front.
