re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

Detailed review of Honda CR-V 1.6L Diesel AWD 9 Speed transmission launched in Philippines . This configuration seems to be closest to what could be launched here.

As per the reviewer, you will be surprised by the amount of power generated by 120 bhp engine!

^The video was pretty good, highlighted the CR-V's positives. I wanted to see if they time it, which they did not. That would have given an idea as to how is the power made despite being a 120 ponied crossover.

Image clearly states 2018-2019 period for 3 car launches. So, it is safe to assume that Civic (Car to the right of New Amaze in image) would be launched in 2019. But which quarter of 2019, any updates/word on it?

The current-generation CR-V looks much more modern, rugged and tougher than the previous generation. Aggressive stylized headlights surrounded by wing-shaped LED daytime running lights on all trim levels, wider fenders, a long hood, a short rear overhang and new dual exhaust tips give the CR-V a more athletic presence.
Quote:
The leather seats found on this Touring model were excellent in terms of support and comfort. The cockpit gives an extremely high-end feel thanks in part to the combination of brushed aluminum, wood and leather which adorn most surfaces. The CR-V’s new TFT driver information interface (also known as the gauge cluster) does away with the traditional design and opts for a much more modern numerical speed readout with the tachometer info above it.
Quote:
Under the hood we find a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and 179 lb.-ft. of torque across all trim levels. This engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission and is offered with a front-wheel drivetrain or with a reengineered Real Time AWD system. The setup has more than enough power to deliver a peppy ride with smooth acceleration across the whole power band. Furthermore, it allows the CR-V to achieve the best fuel economy in the (non-hybrid) compact crossover class. During my week, I averaged 9.7 L/100 km with mainly city driving. Although higher than the advertised numbers, I was still pleasantly surprised given my driving habits.

From my sources, the CR-V is being readied for a festive season launch, while the Civic will arrive during Q1 2019.

Unfortunately I have no information regarding the power rating. While the 120 bhp car should be decent to drive, I really hope they give it the 160 bhp engine. Cmon Honda, even cars like the Scorpio and XUV500 make more power. Hope they don't try to pull an NHC (2nd Gen City) here!

That would be interesting. Ideally they should get both the powerplants for different variants. This would help them price competitively as well but Honda being Honda I doubt.

The 160 bhp one is a twin scroll turbo and should be at par with the competition while the 120 bhp one would be just adequate.

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

Are there any chances that Honda launches the new 1.5 turbo instead of the old 2.4 NA engine ?

The CR-V launch is really confusing from a feature/cost point of view.

Honda will be wise to launch it around the Tuscon's pricing but then they might feel they deserve to target Fortuner/Kodiaq as they are offering 7 seats.

The 1.5 Litre engine will be a great in terms of driveability/performance going by international reviews but Honda might just continue with the existing engine thinking that no one is going to buy the petrol anyway.

It would be very interesting to talk to the decision makers to understand how they arrive at a decision. What they choose will impact the cost/quality/competitiveness/perception of the vehicle.

Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.

re: The Honda CR-V, now launched at Rs 28.15 lakhs

I somehow feel, Honda will launch below models w.r.to diesel powertrains:
1.120HP 4x2 Manual- 5 seater(Entry model, price starting at 25-27lacs ex-showroom)
2.120HP 4x2 AT- 7 seater(mid variant priced at 27-29 lacs)
3.160HP AWD AT-7 seater(top of line priced at 29-32lacs )

Brining 120HP will help them offer lower entry price and 160HP will enable them to compete the likes of Tiguan(or peep the Fortuner ).

Nice post. Although I don't think they go through the lengths of thought and decision making you allude to. Most manufacturers seem to make "quick gun" decisions, based on kit availability, length of time needed for homologating new power-trains vis-a-vis launch date targets etc. I don't think they do enough of blank slate thinking on customer wants and desires, competitive market positioning and pricing and then pushing HQ for the variants/power-trains/features that are best for India as well as making a case for lower profit margins in favor of brand penetration and volume.
