Looks like the MG nailed the pricing too! Now all that's remains to be seen is the quality of the product and how Indians respond to the new brand. And the pricing also make it obvious that they have their target set on Harrier.

Suddenly, from just one reasonably sized SUVs below 20L, we have quite a few options. These will surely deal the final blow to all the sedans out there.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

The pricing is identical to what fellow mod Ajmat and myself told MG. We thought we were being cheeky by telling them to price it 30-50K above Harrier but they have done exactly that.

Overall its a really good package. With a lot of firsts in terms of features like pano sunroof, electric boot lid, power seats for driver and passenger etc.

To drive both petrol and diesel get the job done. Not fun to drive but not bad either. You won't be disappointed.

It's not enthusiasts car to drive in terms of steering, handling, body control and feel but won't complain when you want to push it even though it doesn't like to.

With this price and warranty and service they have really thrown in the gauntlet to Tata. It looks like direct target to Tata and even Mahindra XUV5OO.

Tata especially will have to pull its socks up to counter this attack.

There's a lot of people asking now even more after the price release.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I checked out why all prices end with 8,000 (felt a little odd) - it appears that 8 is considered to be very lucky in Chinese Culture:

Quote:
No. 8 has long been regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture. With pronunciation of 'Ba' in Chinese, no. 8 sounds similar to the word 'Fa', which means to make a fortune. It contains meanings of prosperity, success and high social status too, so all business men favor it very much.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

The gent who announced the price, repeatedly mentioned that its strictly introductory price only for the customers who have pre booked the car and for few more who consider the car now.

----

To those who have driven the car,
The Hector's steering, handling is not that great but does it betters Hyundai Creta or does the Creta has an edge on these departments over the Hector?

That's the most interesting launch now. They would have a very tough time explaining why the customer should pick Seltos over the Hector. The Creta might still survive thanks to the Hyundai badge but Kia would be as new as MG for our market.

I am disappointed that the hybrid version doesnt come with Auto box. I thought it would be easy to tune the characteristics if it was a AT. Also it would make up for loss of mileage due to AT and more acceptance. But it would have meant they would have breached the 16 and 17 lakh numbers.

Not sure where Seltos would fit in with these prices. MG seems to have stolen the thunder as far as features, interior space and VFM.

MG has got most things bang on specially the pricing. The only question in my mind is the build quality and hence safety on the highways, since it is an unknown brand. Hopefully it is on par with the Hyundai's atleast.

I saw a demo car parked near my college and it felt good, when I tried to press the metal panels in.

Many members who managed to check it out have replied positively about the build quality, and so did the reviewers who were present during the media drive.

1. The buyback offer is a gimmick. It's 60% of the "ex-showroom price", meaning 50% or so of the on-road price. Come on, any SUV gets you half the money back in 3 years on the used market.

2. Yep, MG will be making money on this:

- This segment has fat profits. It's not like the sub-10 lakh categories

- The Chinese are masters of cost control

- MG has spent a lot of money on the outside (bling visible to customers) and saved money on the inside (engineering finesse)

Excellent pricing!

Directly against the TATA Harrier - which is now left wanting for features in a big way!

After seeing the product last week, I felt that MG has covered all bases and only the pricing is a big question mark. But with these prices - it is hard to stop MG brand from establishing themselves now!

drive.
Agree with SaisW. When I checked it personally, doors seemed heavy and it had a strong feel around it. Good paint job, better interiors than competition and now it's priced perfectly.

I think 4 things will make MG sell decently, atleast initially.
1) Price
2) Big Sunroof
3) Interior space it offers and that bold touchscreen with iSmart
4) Warranty and service package

This is serious challenge dished out by MG. Kia - Over to you to respond.

Excellent pricing by MG, it will make a big impact in the segment.
Also MG is offering 5 year warranty, RSA and free services which will instill confidence on fence sitters.
Great move MG.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

MG has done everything it can to win the trust of the customers. The buy back price may just be a marketing trick , but the amount of confidence it gives to a customer planning to put 20 lakhs on an unknown brand is immense. The biggest doubt any customer will have is what if MG fails and closes down in couple of years. He is stuck with a vehicle no one will buy. Nothing gives such a customer more confidence than an assured buyer with assured price. Along with the MG shield ,I think MG has already won a lot of trust with this announcement.
