Hyundai has just released details of a new gearbox option for the Venue. Marketed as iMT or an ‘Intelligent Manual Transmission’, the gearbox sure has generated a lot of curiosity and more than a few questions. Well, we’ve got your answers.

What is iMT?

Simply and quite accurately put, the iMT is a ‘clutchless manual’. Yes, at its heart it’s just a regular manual gearbox but without a clutch pedal.

How is iMT different from an AMT?

While an automated manual transmission (AMT) and an iMT are both regular manual gearboxes, in an AMT, the actuators and motors change gears and operate the clutch for you. In function, then, it’s fully automatic. Software, of course, governs when and how the shifts happen.

Exclusive - Kia Sonet World Debut In India, Premiers on August 7, 2020

The highly anticipated subcompact SUV - Kia Sonet will have its world premiere in August. India gets it ahead of others, and so the market launch will follow in a month. The Vitara Brezza and Venue rival will be Kia's third model in India.

After showing us the design study at the Auto Expo, the Kia Sonet will have its world debut in India on August 7 2020. The production model will be showcased to a global audience for the first time - in India, albeit via a live virtual event.

We expect bookings for the car to begin within a week of the global debut event on August 7 2020, and an official market launch with pricing information before mid-September 2020.

The best case scenario would be Venue and Sonet ruling the charts like Seltos and Creta with Brezza pushed below.
The worst case scenario would be Sonet eating in Venue's numbers and Brezza still becoming number 1.

Really hoping for them to launch the diesel version with a TC auto. I know it would be most probably at a premium as compared to the competition, but then again I'm pretty sure there would be takers for that too.

Also hoping they don't go the Seltos way and launch the top end auto version a few months after the main launch.

If they do that, they will have a killer product. Reliability of TC plus economy of diesel. There is currently no diesel AT in this class.

I think Kia will make the car as competitive as it could with all creature comforts but what it needs to topple off Brezza is good pricing. From what I heard The Sonet will be priced a tad higher than the Venue (maybe the reports are wrong). If that happens I don't think it will Topple the Brezza but rather eat Venue's.
