Highly unlikely for this to happen. Just as the Creta and Seltos share the same engine and gearbox options, the same idea will trickle down with respect to compact SUV's from both the brands. Since the Venue does not get a diesel-TC Auto combo, I don't think it's possible for Kia to bring in that option for the Sonet.

In fact, Kia was boasting of getting the iMT as a segment-first feature but now, as most of us know, parent brand Hyundai has taken the limelight of that away too, with the Venue iMT slated to arrive by the end of the month.

I think as automatics go, TCs and CVTs are theoretically sound. With iMTs, I just hope something wrong in the actuators dont stall your cars in addition to the normal jerks.

Hope they are also reliable over tens of thousands of kilometres in our City traffic. They could have tested them in India to prove it

Hyundai’s variants distribution has always been a mess! Take for example the Creta; it’s 1.4L turbo motor is available only in the DCT guise, whereas the Seltos is available in both the MT as well as DCT. Kia’s variant distribution is much more sorted and is customer focussed, if I say. They give you ample of choices to choose from. I know that the Seltos’s variant offerings are crazy and confusing; but then again the customer has a lot to choose from rather then just a handful offered by Hyundai wherein few of the top-spec models miss out on some of the key features!
IMHO, the Sonet will be much more sorted in terms of variant offering akin to its elder brother, Seltos. Not forget, the rumour mills were churning at their fastest right from the beginning, with regards to the Sonet being offered in Diesel TC.

I think Nexon XZA qualifies as a diesel Automatic. Although AMT is inferior to TC.

Looks good. It's been all over the social media pages of Kia. I hope this is not a veiled attack on Venue (ad reads, Venue : Wherever you are!! )

Lets see how is the so called IMT in real world conditions. This car is also on our radar. Infact I've suggested to a cousin of mine to wait for this.

Interesting spy shots. These indicate short overhangs, hopefully leading to increased wheelbase and enhanced legroom. Hope rear seat comfort is adequately addressed. Anxious to see in flesh!

Re: The Kia Sonet Compact SUV, now unveiled

If Kia is planning on placing Sonet as a Nexon,Venue competitor, the pricing should be absolutely nailed. Considering the lesser brand image, that would really help in sales. Any wrong pricing and people will easily forget this. Venue looks chic and is gaining terrific popularity and Nexon with its "Safety" selling point and good pricing is selling extremely well. Kia should do their homework well before uttering a word about pricing.

If we're to go by how Seltos is priced relative to the new Creta, we can safely assume that the overall pricing of the Sonet will be similar to the Venue, but the Sonet will have more variants with features better spread across.

I hope so considering Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite are on the horizon followed by Tata HBX.

In my opinion, at this moment it's not completely true, with Seltos, KIA brand has more value than its competitors can think. Pricing is important, but nowadays a significant number of people not only care about brand, feature list is also important and definitely how a product is marketed and the commitment company shows in the market. Else Kia Seltos, with its highest price at that time, would not be one of the segment's best sellers as soon as it came and even after competition brought fresher models (read 2020 Creta and Harrier).

Re: The Kia Sonet Compact SUV, now unveiled

Back looks proportionate, better than Venue and Nexon. Alloys look way boring. Maybe it's a mid variant and top will get diamond cut alloys. Wish we had a front image too. I am guessing it will have a similar boot space of 350 litre like Nexon and Venue. I assume pricing will be 10-20k plus, minus of Venue. Seriously hoping it gets a diesel Automatic and if it is a TC then Nexon will face heat with their AMT unit. Although Tata is way old but general perception makes Kia a better brand than Tata.
