Tiguan in its present offering is not at all VFM, FOR ME. It’s pricing is RIDICULOUS for the below reasons:
1. Petrol engine only
2. Lacks cooled ventilation in front seats (gets heated ventilation/heated steering which is silly given the weather in central Maharashtra)
3. Lacks wireless CarPlay (paying 40L in 2022 and having to stick a cable in a USB port is not ok)
4. FE: in this segment, diesel is must for a balance between FTD and efficiency. VW made a silly decision discontinuing the erstwhile Tiguan 2.0 TDI, which even then was offered in a lower state of tune. (aftermarket remaps were easily done at the risk of warranty being rendered void, but how hard was it to give the 2.0 TDI in its higher state of tune from the factory).

The Tucson is a strong alternative to all the above shortcomings of the Tiguan (with a longer wheelbase than the Tiguan, given the Allspace has been discontinued).

Enthusiasts are known to discard the Tucson as being a boat (Hyundai’s = boat), but neither of us have driven the new one yet. If the driving dynamics of the new Tucson are even 70% as capable as a Tiguan, Hyundai have a winner on their hands. If it has plush ride quality (which the Tiguan doesn’t have), then too the Tucson is a better option for our roads.

The only thing that it lacks is an option of brown or black upholstery. That light gray/white shall become brown after a couple of years, and wouldn’t be a pleasant sight.

If the driving dynamics of the new Tucson are at par with the 3rd generation Tucson, then Hyundai still has a winner on its hands.

Now imagine Tucson be a winner and all, they are not going to sell more than 1000 units a month.

I feel that the Tiguan isn't really a competitor in this battle, since they hardly can manage 3 digit sales.

Walk into a VW showroom and they hardly have a TD vehicle, no commitment on when it can be delivered, a lack of clarity on colour options, yada yada.

Taking local manufacturing into consideration, I expect Hyundai will price it sensibly and at par with the outgoing CKD generation. 2WD Signature at 28-29L ex-showroom will be a sweet spot for decent volumes.

I Love this car for its design, space, safety, engines and features. Lines are blurring atleast on the global scale. someone can buy a GLA Petrol, not knowing that its engine is a Renault sourced turbo petrol and 3 Cyl at that. when a Mahindra and Tata can justify a 30L price tag which was unthinkable a decade before...Hyundai with its improved brand over the last decade, 40 L is reasonable for an ADAS enabled vehicle.

Quite a feature loaded car, especially with ADAS (though you can get that for less in the XUV700, but there is the waiting period). I feel the design is a bit polarizing though, what with the large grille and sharp lines. Both the interior and exterior feel overdesigned.

I have been waiting for this car for a while, my family's been looking at this segment to replace an old car, but choices are limited - a Compass compromises on space, and a Tiguan compromises on features and efficiency. This seems to hit a sweet spot in the segment, will wait for full review and TD units to roll out.

I doubt Tucson has wireless CarPlay. Infact none of the Hyundai cars with 10.25’’ HU had wireless CarPlay. Not sure whether they changed anything for Tucson.

That's right. Globally also this system doesn't support Wireless options. They have 8" system in entry level variant in some countries which surprisingly supports Wireless options.

This thread is getting filled with speculative posts, but the official review is nowhere in sight. Wonder what’s got the reviewers to take this long ? Not even first impressions from YouTubers too. Hyundai being stingy with test vehicles ?

Why is hyundai not offering more airbags, at least the knee airbag? Now that even 10 lakh cars get 6 airbags, it really makes more sense to put more airbags at least to justify the premium. Octavia gets 8 airbags(Even the 2016 models got that). Kodiaq gets 9 airbags. Price it 40 lakhs on road but don't skip on features. Give 3 zone climate control, give shift by wire transmission, wireless android auto/car play. At least give them as option pack.
Why do the Indian manufacturers do not offer customizations? No option to choose alloys, interior trims, etc. When we see the hyundai website for other countries, there are so many customisation options, but sadly no choice given to Indians?

When the brand is launching the car only through CKD route and doesn’t expect to sell more than a couple hundred per month (after launch craze), it wants to keep it plain simple. The business managers would prefer to put more efforts on the models and segments that are most important for the brand- volumes, revenue and margin.

Apart from a few enthusiasts, India is a price (of the product) driven country and the customisations don’t come cheap.

Then why bother with CKD models if they want to keep it simple? If they decide to bring such vehicles, they should be fully loaded just like other countries and people should have the option to choose the highest trim regardless of the numbers.

Embargo. All the launches have it. They have the review releases in two stages. ADAS review (released a few days back) and full car review.

Exactly why they should offer the fully loaded version with even a slightly higher price. Less units sold but more profit per car.
The Indian buyer is much more demanding now and less price sensitive. The top variant is the most in demand for every car. The brezza is priced more than the equivalent Hyundai car and most likely the grand vitara will also be priced higher.
And tucson being a premium offering, the buyer is not that sensitive to price in that segment. Look at the success the Kodiaq and Tiguan have got despite being overpriced and only petrol engines.
Hyundai really needs to up the game in this segment. If they can do 10% of Creta sales for tucson, it would be a great success.
