I doubt A-star success for its pricing. For an Alto replacement, they should have gone for lower pricing. Maruti definitely got the pricing wrong there.

The A-Star will sell but not in the present market conditions. Data for A-star is not available, but I think all cars (from all makers) could meet a lukewarm/negative reception at present. 800 sales have tanked from 5,900 pm in Jan-Mar 08 to 2,840 pm in Oct-Dec 08. Maruti's compact segment sales have also declined from 44K pm in Jan-Mar 08 to 38K pm in Oct-Dec 08.

Alto is not going to be replaced since it's one of the top sellers. It'll co-exist with Estilo & WR.

Its a good car dude. The car is very versatile and has lots of qualities which higher end cars have (not including ABS and airbags).

Just to point out, the Front car seat can be moved back completely and it becomes a 2 seater.

The seats are all supportive and comfortable as seen in big cars.

A-star is best in high speeds. Driving at 120 is simply very easy in A-star.

Does the Fiat figure includes Linea sales as well? If yes, it is indeed an impressive figure. 3461 cars produced and sold 3379 units. Only 82 left unsold?

EDIT: Just realized that it produced 3461 cars in 2008 and sold 3379. On an average 281 cars a month.

2008 means FY2008 (April 2007-March 2008) and so on. 9MFY2009 means Apr-Dec 08 and 9MFY08 means Apr-Dec 07. Fiat figures include all models.

In 9MFY2009, Fiat produced 3965, sold 3417 in domestic market, and exported 460.

in this market scenarion car manufactureres can only ensure decent sales if they keep on launching new models .

that unfortunately will not will be the reality ,nor will they make any dramatic changes to make the cars more value for money

the safer bet for them is to make a bigger effort at selling the existing models and variants.

of late have received three calls from the dealers where i took test drives enquiring whether I am intrested in buying a car.

Looks like this will be the stark reality of the times

With interest rate set to come down, better times ahead for auto makers?

Wow, 124% effect of Dzire I guess right? Does it include bookings or only delivered one? If only delivered, man it would be still higher considering those waitlisting for diesel hearts.

There was an article in ToI, Bangalore, Business Section, last week that Maruti's profit plunged by more than 50% (somewhere around 54%). Wonder how this is connected to that!

That was Q3 quarterly result for the period Oct 08 - Dec 08.

Moreover, profits depend on raw material cost, transport cost etc. Higher sales doesn't always mean more profit

Yep, that's DeZire effect in full swing. In fact except for that segment, the changes have been very minimal, as seen in the data. I would be surprised at how many of them they could sell, considering there is no supply shortage!

Hyundai is losing its momentum in the C-segment to Maruti. Accent + Verna sold only 2100 units in January 2009, while Dzire and SX4 sold 6500 units!
