Through this downgrade, some people can justify that Linea does not beat Civic, and is in fact trailing Honda City. By their logic (of categorising based on pricing), perhaps Fabia should be in City segment, and should be competing with Optra. Similarly, Accord does not compete with Camry. See my earlier posts of some similarly ridiculous comparisons (if pricing is used to categorise). And to add another comparison, Alto competes with Indigo (the price difference is 1 lakh which is the same as between Linea and City). Really , there is no stretching so as to justify one's prejudices.
Vasudeva, Come on, dont fall into this. However much anyone tries, one cant really justify anyone's logic of segmentation in the Indian car market.

As you know, cars need to be segmented based on interior volume or premium/luxury markers. For the latter, there are brands which fall into this and for other manufacturers, they have created sub-brands to get into that. That should be clear.

Again, you can prove Fiat wrong by contesting their claim of pitting Linea against City. Or Fiat fans can dispute Fiat and non-Honda fans can support them.
Its a bottomless pit and too many threads are being overtaken with this Fiat vs XXX content.

The Swift (excl. DZire) crossed 3 lac units cumulative in Feb '09.

1. Santro - 4 yrs 7 months to touch this figure
2. Indica - 5 yrs 3 months
3. Alto - 4 yrs 9 months
4. Swift - 3 yrs 9 months

A great start!

I guess Dzire had the desired effect on the consumers!!.I really dint expect swift to outsell even the alto in cumulative sales.

The looks and 'personality' of Swift has surely played a role in its sales success. Tata should learn from this and stop being so iterative.
Unfortunately we are stuck with this boring and anonymous shape of Indica Vista for another six years.

Tata Indica's Sales was a record at that time, for a hatch of that size.

It is a Same case with Swift & Dezire for next 5~6 years, as no major change except cosmetic face lift ( And replacing esteem's engine due to BS4 stage at April 2010) on these models.

Oh, tell me about it. I saw an ad today of an Indica Cross-over.. a competition for Innova and MPVs... and with that same damn grille and front! Arrgghh.

Can't they change if for once? Is it that difficult to change the front that you need designers from Italy?

Not to mention the christmas tree tail lamp design. But more than design i think has to improve their build quality and have a competent line-up of modern, fuel efficient powertrains.

8043 Sedans sold by Maruti in a month! And people are saying there is a recession! This is the magic of Dezire! They would also have increased the production capacity. Good - now waiting period should come down.
