I think it has been over 4.5 years since this last post? Lot of time has passed by and lot of things are now water under the bridge. I'll update the thread whenever I get the time to do so.

Wheels got a new coat of paint. This was an attempt to recreate the TE37 Bronze shade and I failed miserably. It looked okay in isolation but too dark when mounted on the car

Re: Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia

The AMP to D2S adapter on one of my projectors melted, AGAIN. Replaced them with morimoto bulbs and ballasts I had lying around as a temporary fix.

The "yearly detail" was kept postponed as the car still looked good.

However in April 2020, the lockdown finally hit. I was honestly getting bored sitting at home so my mind wandered on what I could do on the car instead to spend some time not just sitting in front of a computer all day.

I had managed to clean the areas behind the bumper when I had taken it out to change the bulbs

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-01.jpg

The car exterior, wasn't too dirty. This was the amount of dust it had accumulated from the Mumbai trip

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-02.jpg

Wheels, ofcourse were dirtier

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-03.jpg

To start with, the engine bay was given a basic cleanup.

Exterior gets a wash. At this point I'm wondering if its even worth detailing this car. oh well I needed a distraction badly so here we go on.

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-07.jpg

Work in progress. The exterior got a very basic 2 stage liiiiight polish, since the car only has single stage paint and that too, not much left of it.

Looks like a car straight out of the assembly line unless one looks at the alloys or the aux lights. Must commend your passion towards maintaining it in this condition.

Earlier in June (11th) this year, I was driving to Mysore and I saw a similar red Cedia Sport, at the Mysore NICE road exit. It was in immaculate condition, shining like a beauty. It reminded me of your car although that one was in pure stock condition. We were stuck in a jam at the exit across different lanes and I couldn't click a pic.

I really wanted to express my appreciation to the gentleman who was driving it but couldn't.

Re: Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia

Absolutely beautiful car lucky to have an owner / custodian in you. The updates to the dash etc really brings it back to life. I agree the wheel color is a bit dark but that's what projects are for - fine tuning and making the Cedia/ Lancer your very own. Wish you many happy miles and hope to see updates whenever feasible.

The Cedia just looks so good! I remember reading this thread during lockdown and this update is like a wave of nostalgia. Kudos to you for taking such good care of that beauty.
Also, how are the spares situation for Cedia's nowadays?

Your car looks awesome! Happy to see that it has been well maintained and looked after.

I have always had the fear of not finding Mitsubishi parts in India easily. How have you been managing it?

Happy Driving!

Re: Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia

Other than the fact that you maintain the car in immaculate condition like this, I have never heard someone clean the bumper interiors to be honest xD and I have actually removed and changed the fog lights/lamps in multiple different cars but I have never once thought of doing it . My ending line seeing your PFP is
Giggity Giggity Giggity.......

Parts availability is terrible. I wouldn't suggest anyone to buy a Cedia now unless it's already perfect and wont need more parts. Continuing with the story...

So the lockdown continued and the boredom that comes along with it as well.

While looking at what I can do on the car, I got an idea of trying to Ceramic coat the entire engine bay. From my memory, I had not seen anyone attempt this, especially on an older car.

Since I have a ton of time, I decided to give it a go. The engine was fairly clean thanks to the wash I gave it before I started the detail.

The plan was to dismantle as much as I could. Clean all corners, hand polish all the painted parts, do a thorough cleanup then ceramic coat as much as possible.

The plan started with disassembly. First off was the airbox

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-01.jpg

Next, battery

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-02.jpg

Fuse Box and Coolant overflow bottle came off. All the underneath areas got a thorough cleanup

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-03.jpg

Area behind fuse box got a generous dose of handpolish.

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-04.jpg

Other side got the similar treatment

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-05.jpg

Entire engine bay cleaned up and polished, even around the transmission mount which no one will ever see. This took a few days to complete and was very labour intensive. I even polished the exhaust manifold and planned to ceramic coat that too

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-06.jpg

After few more days, the engine bay is done!

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-07.jpg

Ooh, this looked so much better in person. pictures truly do not do justice.

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-08.jpg

Radiator hose looking resplendent with the ceramic coating. This was a 14 year old part at the time of coating, BTW.

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-09.jpg

Airbox, battery clamp and other parts getting the ceramic treatment as I treat myself to some The Grand Tour

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-10.jpg

Came back to the engine bay for a second coat

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-11.jpg

Battery gets a charge up since it was pretty much disconnected for almost a month. I don't know how but I forgot to coat the battery heh

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-12.jpg

Engine bay starting to look together again

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-13.jpg

Replaced the stock filter with a HKS Unit from an Evo 8

Life with a Red Mitsubishi Cedia-14.jpg

Finally its done!

Do you use a set of non-painted alloys too? If my memory serves me right, that car's alloys were in OE shade. The gentleman was traveling with family.

BTW that looks like the turbo Civic, in the last pic. Curious to know more about it

Welcome back! Missed your posts, sir. AFAIK, you are one of the few people who have a really keen eye for detailing. Till day your earlier posts in detailing section are relevant. I seriously hope you'd be regular now.

Isn’t this the driveway where a blue coloured RS 245 is parked?

OT: Weren’t you averse to ceramic coatings on car paints? IIRC, I had read a post where you had said something like, this little bottle cannot do much to protect paint.

Also, *please please* let me know how did you manage so little dust in such a long road trip? Is it because of weather and relatively dust free cities? Need a lot of details here as I am tired of sweeping my car with Jopasu after every drive.

These photos are from 2019/2020. The wheels are back to stock silver now! Here's a recent picture of both cars

The Civic has been featured in this month's Evo india magazine. You can read all about it!

I work in the automotive sector where detailing is a part of my job. To avoid biases, I refrain to talk anything about detailing on the open forums. I have been maintaining this stance for many many years now. I'm merely sharing my personal experiences on this thread
